Free Speech Rights Prevented Probe Into Hasan E-Mails

The claim comes as officials in different branches of law enforcement and the military squabble over who knew what when about Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's leanings toward faith-inspired violence, and as charges fly that 'political correctness' prevented officials from taking action and is still being used as a crutch in explaining the rampage after the fact.
Since when do free speech rights prevent a probe into a criminal investigation? This is well beyond being politically correct. The criminality here is treason.

It has nothing to do with 1st amendment rights but all to do with the 4th amendment. Having an opinion and expressing it, does not give authorities the right to lock a person up or watch for that matter as the FBI clearly stated. We have not reached such far grasping ideology as the movie 'minority report,' suggests by locking people up BEFORE a crime has been committed. I have to agree though that political correctness could have had people second guessing reporting his odd behavior. However being scared of doing whats right, regardless of what "might" happen to ones self, has nothing to do with 1st amendment, but all to do with ones own character. I personally do not engage in political correctness and hope this tragedy will change such thinking with regards to "political correctness."

You might want to read his statements and papers that he presented at various forums. From what I've read, they had probabe cause to get a subpoena to search the computer. They hadprobable cause to get a search warrant to tap his phone lines as well. And under
FISA, they could have gone ahead and done it anyway without getting a subpoena. You can George Bush and Congress for that.
