Fr. Michael Sinnott, kidnapped just over 4 weeks ago in the Philippines, has been released just over 1 hour ago.

He was handed over to Government officials and is now at a medical centre for check-ups. He underwent a quadruple bypass in 2005 and had no medication with him when abducted. This caused serious concern about his welfare during captivity.

It is understood that no ranson was paid for his release.

It is a source of joy for his parishioners in the Philippines, where he worked for the past 33 years, and Co. Wexford, Ireland, where he was born and reared. It is also a cause for celebration among the Filipino population in Ireland who held a prayer meeting last Sunday to pray for his safe release. Their prayers have been answered.
