Fresh voter lists issued: A hope for change
Election comission of Pakistan have issued fresh voter lists for the upcoming general elections in the country. It has been a great work to be acknowledged by all of us that one of the prime draw back in our electoral system has been removed. But, this is only the first and one of the most basic change for the better that we have witnessed.
To secure the complete transparency of polls in the country Election Comission of Pakistan have to take several more steps and make already present legislation implemented.
Another big drawback in our electoral system is that of bestowing the supporters by a political party. The unchecked use of government funds to political supporters just prior to elections must be checked. This trend should also be banned in the coming general elections if it is going to be made transparent.
One of the fundamental problem our election comission have is the lack of power and authority. Supreme Court though have repeatedly asked for more powers to the EC but it hasnt still implemented its powers where it needed the most.
Election Comission of Pakistan should set Indian Election Comission as its role model and bring all political parties under its power and take strict actions on any activity that is against the laws of the Election Comission.
Fresh voter lists issued removed 30 million fake voters that we had in the previous general elections. Most observers call it a night mare for the status quo political parties because the removal of fake voters and inclusion of young voters will certainly help those political parties that have stimulated the youth of the country and have given them a vision and a hope for their future.
Observers also believe those fake voters were the main tool in governments hand to do rigging in the elections to help win their respective candidates which will be there no more now.
Well, we must hope that an independent Election Comission, free media and Independent courts would help Pakistan towards a free and fair genral elections that would be first of its kind.
