'My father is innocent' 07 Apr 09

Alberto Fujimori has been handed a 25 year sentence in a Peruvian court.  He was found guilty of all charges including crimes against humanity.

Alberto Fujimori, the former president of Peru, has been jailed for 25 years after being found guilty of all charges, including crimes against humanity, following a 15-month trial.

Fujimori, 70, was also found to have ordered two massacres and two kidnappings that took place in the 1990s during the country's "dirty war" against the Shining Path rebel group.

The verdict related to two massacres, the first committed on November 3, 1991 when a group of armed and masked soldiers burst into a party in the Lima suburb of Barrios Altos, killing 15 people, including an eight-year-old boy.

Several months later, nine university students and their professor were rounded up by the same "La Colina" squad, taken to a deserted area of the city, and executed with shots to the back of the head.

Fujimori was democratically elected in the '80s and was popular, however increasing concerns over corruption and the formation of death squads led to his downfall.  He fled to Japan while still in office and resigned from Japan.  He returned to South America in a bid to regain power and was arrested for his crimes.

Yes and he's already serving a six year sentence.  So, a democratically elected president can be jailed for war crimes and crimes against humanity.  I wonder what other country that could apply to.  Got any suggestions?
