Therese Rochette's Funeral

The funeral for Thérèse Guèvremont-Rochette, the late mother of Canadian skater Joannie Rochette, is set for Thursday in Berthierville, Quebec. Thérèse Rochette died soon after arriving in Vancouver to see her daughter perform at the Olympic Games. It is alleged that Thérèse Rochette died of a heart attack. She was 55.

Joannie Rochette's Courage

Joannie Rochette inspired the nation when she performed her short program within days of learning about her mother's death. Rochette was resolute to perform from day 1, and her free skate, although not flawless, earned her a bronze medal. Rochette was one of the two recipients of Vancouver 2010 Terry Fox Award awarded for courage, humility and extraordinary athletic abilities. Rochette was also named the flag bearer for Canada at the Closing Ceremonies.

The skater is set to perform at the World Championships in Torino, Italy later this month.

Berthierville's Ste. Genevieve church is expected to be full to its 1,000-person capacity as friends and family from the tight-knit community gather to pay their respects.
