Earlier this week, Liz Cheney defended the whacko "birther" conspiracists who claim Barak Obama was not born in Hawaii, but in Kenya.
Now, ex-felon, Watergate burglar and good friend of John McCain, G. Gordon Liddy has jumped on the "birther" bandwagon. Unfortunately for the birthers, he was destroyed with a mountain of evidence that Obama was born in Hawaii, presented by Chris Matthews on Hardball.
On Hardball Thursday, conservative talk radio host G. Gordon Liddy and WRNB Radio’s E. Steven Collins discussed why the debate over President Barack Obama’s citizenship continues to fill radio air time despite the release of the president’s birth certificate which states he was born in Hawaii. Host Chris Matthews lit into Liddy for not giving the silly, unsubstantiated rumors a rest.

The essential problem of the "birthers" is how they go about substantiating their claims. First they start with the root of the problem - they do not want Obama as president. Then they try to obfuscate that fact by creating a scenario in which it is not possible for him to be president. They will then go about searching out information that will support that claim. When any evidence emerges to the contrary, that's where they kind of come off the rails. Anyone who disputes the claim is a liar, and any information that debunks their claims are lies. Some go much further and create conspiracy theories and massive cover-up schemes. But it all comes from the idea that they have created a "fact" and then look for ways to try and make it true.
