Gary Michael Hilton, Killer of Meredith Emerson: Campsite found

It is appropriate that the comment by Glenn Adams has (not verified) next to his name. That is exactly the mind set you need if you take anything he says as true.

He set two gallon jugs of gasoline in the carport of the Green family home with 2 strings leading up the driveway where he sat in his "BLACK CAMERO" ( A NEW CAR TO ADD TO THE LIST OF HIS VEHICLES) then set the strings on fire. They, Ms. Green and her family (her sister and brother) members heard a noise ran out of the house and were able to put out the fire with a hose. It happened at 0001 hours. When Hilton was driving off he hit a parked car, thus the hit & run charge. One of the young ladies in the Green family had dated Hilton a few times, but broke it off. That was in Feb. 1982. In May, 2 weeks before the fire on May 28, 1982 he started calling to harass her asking if she wanted to make some money prostituting for him. She said he sounded like he had eaten a few ludes and she hung up on him. He was arrested on First Degree Arson charges and booked into Dekalb County jail. He lived at the time at 5135 West Mountain St. #A-17, Stone Mountain, GA. The report indicates the Green's signed statements that they knew who the arsonist was and could positively identify him as Hilton, but I guess he just found a way to talk his way out of it or the girls were just too afraid of him and what he might do next.

Case #82-103081 & #82-103082, the report ends with case is closed and cleared, pending criminal prosecution. Hilton signed for a copy of the report on June 11, 1982.

This has been on our local news, and the whole thing is just totally heartbreaking. Because they came so close to nabbing this guy. He was waltzing in and out of stores, restaurants, while the van was parked somewhere very close…. I feel so much pain for her parents, another tragedy…. another scumbag ruining lives. Here’s a piece from our local paper:

GBI investigator John Cagle: One of his biggest cases and mostly like last before retirement was Meredith Emerson’s death.

Still fresh in Cagle’s mind are the hours spent with her parents and his interview with Gary Michael Hilton, the scrawny vagabond who admitted he kidnapped Emerson from a North Georgia hiking trail just for money he expected she would — but never did — give him.

“The thing that bothers us, or me, is what was going through her mind — what she was going through. That’s troubling,” said Cagle, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent who was lead investigator on the Emerson case. “I think about how close we came.”

Emotionally, the Emerson case hit the investigator like no other.

If the GBI had notified the local Sheriff’s Depts in this area and the public sooner, I am confident that this would have ended much different. I saw his van in the woods, adjacent to my home; at 6:30 on 01/03/08, and thought that it was campers.
There was the news conference on 01/04/08, where the only answers given were: “I can’t answer that question, this is an ongoing investigation!” Then on 01/06/08, the CYA, or PR phase began when it was announced that only LE personnel would be allowed to search for Mereith’s remains. The locals and hunters in this are could have found them in hours. I personally talked to a man that confronted Hilton, trying to gain access to a locked dumpster, and a locked fence, 01/04/08 at 2 PM, in the area where her remain were found.

Wolfscratch: Meredith Hope Emerson, disarmed GMH, of his hunting knife, expandable baton, and physically fought him three times. She was buying time for a rescue. The rescue never came. The response time to the Huddle House on 01/03/08 was 'four hours' by the GBI. The reason for this delayed response in in the Official investigation records of the GBI and is available to the media, yet they refuse to expose the truth. Why?
