On a lunch break I turned on CNN, just in time to catch a news report of  gas stations running out of gas across the South... with the commentator fearing it might be spreading.

On my way back to work, I decided to check for myself what the situation was in this Southern town of 50,000 people.

I passed three gas stations, including the one I normally do business with... that had no gas.

Then I went to the busiest intersection in this city, where there is a gas station on every corner except one.  All were out of gas.

I pulled into one of these to get a snack.  I said to the clerk, "That's amazing isn't it? All three stations at this intersection out of gas."

She said "Yes, it is."

I saw a policeman standing by an ice cream cooler reading a magazine. After I paid for my snack, I opened it up and walked over to him. I said to him, "Are you having any problems because of this?"

He looked up from the magazine and said, "What problems?"

I said "because all these gas stations are out of gas."

He said, "Nah, there's gas everywhere. You might find a gas station here and there that don't have any, but there's gas everywhere."

I didn't point out to him "Hey, look out the window."

I went back to my truck and drove back past one more empty station, to report live, that hey, there is no gas shortage. There's gas everywhere.

I heard it from a policeman.
