May 21st, 2008, traffic was impeded on St. Rt. 28 most of the day because Swifty Gas Station was selling gasoline at $3.66 per gallon. The going rate a few days before was $3.95 per gallon.
Today, May 23rd, the price is back at $3.93 per gallon. Watching people line up for "bargain" gasoline made me think that somehow a significant turning point had just occurred. This photo was taken at about 8:45 in the evening...they were still lined up.
The rapid decline in the value of the dollar makes everything that we buy from a foreign country more expensive. Most of our oil is purchased from a foreign country. Over the past few years the value of the dollar has been cut in half.
Gas will never be going down. $4.00 / gallon will be considered a bargain in the near future.
