The brazen attack on Kabul on Monday with the earlier atttack on December 30 at the CIA Chapman forward operating base at Khost has left the U.S. weighing its options what to do with the so-called bastard child of the British, nurtured for 60 years by US tax-payers monies.
Secretary of Defence Robert Gates in his tour of India repeatedly praised India for not attacking Pakistan in the wake of the November 26, 2008 attacks. He also said al Qaeda could provoke war between India and Pakistan.
But Gates warned that it would be a mistake for the United States and its allies in South Asia to concentrate on eliminating a particular network while ignoring the others. "It's dangerous to single out any one of these groups and say if we could beat that group that will solve the problem," he said. "Because they are, in effect, a syndicate of terrorist operators."
