A body was found outside the Gathering of the Vibes festival in Connecticut. The body of 29-year-old James Caliro was found in the camping area of the popular music festival that started as a tribute to Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead.

A cause has yet to be determined in the Gathering of the Vibes death, but local police believe foul play was not a factor. Some witnesses, however, have said that the Caliro's body may been dumped from a car.

i was a few rows down from where they found the body, it was really sad when i hear sunday morning at first i hear it was a dropp from the outside but later found out that it was in relations to the n20 mafia the body had been rapped up in a tarp and placed behind a tent, its so messed up, i guess he had been beated and was all covered in blood that it hppened saturday night and they used the fire works to cover up his screams while the n20 mafia burned his face, so fucked up al the shit that happened at vibes. its such an amazing place. it was my first year and of course it had to be the year that two people got killed. yeah... the other one was washed up on shore with a coat hanger around his neck. that one was a drop which is most likely how the stories got messed up. and don't forget the dumpster baby, god have i never seen so many baby's at a fest before? babies on n20 street yeah junkies who cant even take care of themselves...leave shakedown street on kensington ave. don't bring it to gathering of the VIBES as in good vibes.. really. let's make everyone's first experience a good one better one nex year i'll be here too see hope they care more about who they crack down on. its just not right they take so much time to make sure you are wearing a bracelet but then i read about how it took a while for the medic's to get t the dead body.. i know they got there as fast as they could im sure cuz one almost hit me on there way but still im sure it wasnt as fast ast hey were chasing someone without a breacelet through the check points... reality? its for jerry and some people just seem to forget apperently. and only care about the money...there isn no war on drugs. its a war on profit, sounds more like it...?cops and there dam horses. i walked by the street during the day by the coast and the horse dropped the biggest heat pile in the world i could swear on it and they didnt even clean it. shit was steeming. fo real. but now im still rambling on but i read alot of untrue stuff about the murders. and this was one of the first pop ups without comments so i figured i'd get it off my chest. peace &&love. make 2010 a better year and fuck the n20mafia. ....don't suck in all your money. hippy crack is only good for so long. dont let it get  to your brain&& don't swin imn the dirtyy waterrrr! you never know when there gunna find a body in it.ewwww...... Your uninformed guesstimations and spreading of rumors are not only immature and completely irresponsible, but an enormous insult to the deceased, and their family, friends and loved ones.

are you serious? the nitrous mafia was INSANE! they didn't give a shit about anyone... i'm sorry that someone had to die, but clearly it was all their fault... they were rude and inconsiderate to all the other campers and i know this for a fact because they posted up at our site every night and we even asked them to pay us to be there (and they still broke one of our EZups...it's not cool for people to legit suck away their money like that when it only kills your brain even worse.... or how about the two women that started fighting, and called each other thieves because they were each feinding for another balloon? that's disgusting. Vibes is supposed to be a festival to commemorate Jerry Garcia and for everyone to have a good time, what actually went down was the complete opposite and all of those involved should be ashamed.

btw, it costs a mere $50-$60 to fill a small tank, and for one to be selling a balloon for $5 is asinine.

It would be an insult to the family and friends if they believed these lies that there was no foul play involved in this man's death.  I was there when the body was found and know for a fact that it was dumped around 6:30 am on Sunday morning.  I believe that is fould play!  They are twisting the facts to downplay the incident.  I think that it is an insult to say that there was no foul play involved when a body is dumped out of his car and wrapped in a tarp.  And I saw his stomach.  There was huge blisters and skin missing from his torso.  It was awful.  The man had also been dead for a day or so because the stink was unbelievable.  I would know because they made us sit next to it for 6 hours in the blistering heat.

From The Connecticut Post 7/27/2009

BRIDGEPORT -- The death of a Long Island man at the Gathering of the Vibes in Seaside Park does not appear to have been the result of foul play, police said Monday.

Police Capt. James Viadero said there were no visible signs of trauma on the body of Jay Caliro, 29, of East Meadow, N.Y., which was found lying on the ground in the festival camping area near the baseball diamonds early Sunday.

According to the state medical examiner, the cause of Caliro's death has not been determined, pending toxicological tests.

Witnesses at the park said the man may have been dumped at the site from a car. Viadero said police are investigating that report, but so far have no new information.

He said the man had been attending the concert.

The man was 100% definately dumped because I was there at 6 am and there was no body then a half hour later it was there rapped in a tarp.  I agree that there are rumors being spread and facts embellished,  however, you should not believe everything you read because I was there and the police are distorting facts and just flat out lying about certain details of what occured on Sunday morning.

You people seriously have no clue what you are talking about. My tent and car were literally a part of the crime scene and the cop tent was set up about 3 feet away from my car. I spent most of my morning talking to the cops.. Are you guys illiterate? THE COPS SAID FOUL PLAY WAS NOT INVOLVED! So how then, I ask, was he beaten and lit on fire and whatever the fuck it is people are saying if there wasn't damage to the body? Trust me I spent my morning about 30 feet from the tent where he was and they would not let anyone near it to see it. If it was violent, I'd be with you all the way! But the cops said to me, and in a million articles, that it seems to be medical and probably and OD. Have some respect for the dead and stop spreading rumors about this unfortunate incident.

Anonymous8698

I was 3 feet from the body and had to sit there for hours while I was detained.  I had to open my tent to see a dead man lying in front of it.  I would say it is foul play if a body is dumped and covered in a tarp.  The man had been dead for at least a day before he was dumped there.  Don't believe everything you read.  I don't doubt he OD'd but he was dumped and had a huge blister on his stomach the size of a football either from a burn or decay, so I think it's disrepect to say that there was no foul play involved.

"they would not let anyone near it to see it."

So gee, why do you think that is?  Maybe because it was a grisly scene?  If the cops are terming it a "crime scene," I don't think he just OD'd.

Did you even see the body? You're telling people to fucking read these articles and that we must all be  illiterate. But seriously...some people ACTUALLY saw the body. They're not making shit up and spreading rumors...they're trying to get the TRUTH out. If you didn't see the body then don't ignore these people. Give them a chance to speak!

The Connecticut Post confirmed it was an OD - the other rumors are just that...rumors.

And just to set the record straight, this was the only death at the festival in the 14 years of Vibes.

I've been working Vibes for the past 6 years. This event was sad & extremely unfortunate. The nitrus & hippie mafia are present at most festivals around our nation. We can point blame just about anywhere. I think the best thing to do is respect the dead and keep the good karma & healthy vibes out there.

Well, I awoke to the cops pulling up to the crime scene.  Saw the fat CSI guy waddling unhappily over.  I was speculating about what happened with some folks in line at the Porto-johns.  OD?  Murder?  Accidental death?

Nobody knew shit.

I let some folks with tanks do biz by my car.  Free balloons for hours, and they were pretty rude to each other, but nothing too crazy.  They weren't trying to ransack my shit or anything.  My neighbors looked a bit upset, but my friends and I cleaned up the balloons and made others too.  Nitrous mafia didn't seem all that baddass frankly.  I guess it was them, one dude had a Phillies cap on and they sounded like they were from PA.  This was Saturday late afternoon.

Then late Sunday afternoon, after hearing many rumors(who the fuck pays $200 and risks getting their car searched to dump a body?  That shit makes no sense.), some spun out kid that kept talking about the K-hole he just emerged from, is all freaked out and starts babbling about needing my bracelet for CSN and finding the body that was beaten and bruised with a purple face and hair burned off.  He found it in a tarp.  He was almost crying and I believed him.  Don't know who I'd blame though, lots of motives out there.

I am 32 and have been going to festivals for years and have seen waaaay too much sketchy shit.  But the most sketchy thing about this so far is the "no foul play suspected" reported by the cops to CT papers.  Money ruins everything.

But I have decided to boycott N20.  That poor guy, plus the shit's terrible for you anyway.

0
Anonymous175

Yeah.  I have never seen such a huge crowd of dirtbags at a festival before.  I hate the N20 mafia.  They ruin the good time people are trying to have.

it must have been the motorcycles..

the City has banned Motorcycles at the Park for many years. you can't just go ride down to the shore to watch the waves anymore,...but I did notice a few biker's motorcycles around 3 i think..

they must have driven by and the poor guy died..or maybe he walked by and saw them parked there.

it is a deadly sight, no doubt. I knew there must have been  a reason  for the ban on my transportation...

Seriously folks , enough's enough, The guy friggin od'd' the night before and laid there. blood pools within the body and bloating occurs, and worse still..maybe some rodents had a snack (sorry but possible). The tarp was laid there to avoid onlookers from viewing the poor deceased.  Give it rest...like all you drugged out freaks can be taken seriously anyway..c'mon!  Hippies are the worst nuisance of all...

0
Mugwart

Hey bubba... you don't know shit.  Why don't you go have a snack, and while you're at it, stay the fuck out of the conversation if you don't like the people involved.

Bubba, no one cares about what you post up on this website you can say anything you want about what happened and no one can stop you. But to directly insult the majority of the vibes campers is irritating and sounds really fuckin arrogant. I met people at the vibes that had such a positive impact on my life. And by the way were not all hippies and for you to classify everyone in this blog as a hippy is just dumb. What are you? a doctor, a fucking conformist prick, did you even go to the vibes? or are you just a stuck up yuppy who's to good to hang with all of us hippies. The vibes was truly spiritual for me and all of my friends. Iv never met so many chill laid back people in my life. I was camped near the crimescene but obviously no one saw the body, no matter what the cause of death their not going to let random bystanders just look at the body. But yes very sad and tragic that this happened, and its not wrong to talk about it but dont you dare insult these poeple because most of us young people know more about life now than you ever will. Just dont show up at any festivals because your shitty no good im better than all of you hippies attititude will get you in trouble. Vibes= best time of my life. Shout out to the family, lowkey, mama johanna, anna, whiteboy, and cunt. Much love homies ill never forget the good times. Peace and love

It truly is the saddest thing that someone had to pass away, violent or not, at a place that was intended to promote love and life.  I cannot conceivably believe that this person had departed us from OD'ing, and those who believe everything that the newspaper says should recognize who controls media and believe in things for themselves.  I want to believe that he was responsible for what had happened to him, but I do not feel it is that way.  The whole situation is just one big skeptical mess. Regardless though, not only were the N2O people shady as all hell, but I am aware of some fight that had occurred between two gentleman earlier in the night over nitris.  Such a silly waste.  I wait, as I am sure the rest of you do, and have been checking everyday for updates on this event.    I hope and pray for the family of this man who I do not know but is still a brother to me as I am sure the rest of you feel.  I believe it is time to stop with the nitris garbage at shows and festivals.  If people do not buy it, then people do not bring it, and then all of the problems and problematic persons that come along with nitris will no longer worry our minds.  I know of all places in the world I choose to go to to feel safe is a festival full of love and music and beautiful people, I would for sure like to continue to feel that way, I am sure that we all do.  Much love to everyone, I hope that life does nothing but provide you and yours goodness and safety.

I have to agree. FOrtunately many of you have never seen a dead body before; neither immediately after death or in the hours that follow. I'm a nurse. I have. Some of the descriptions I've read both here and on other sites do not convince me that foul play was involved. Bodies can look splotchy and bruised. The weather was wet and hot, not good for a corpse. I agree that the nitrous dealers were a-holes but it really doesn't mean that they committed murder. Perhaps this guy died in their presence, they freaked out and got rid of him. Perhaps he passed out (was still alive) and they dumped him in the spot where he later died. Perhaps the Pennsylvania car tip was made up by someone who has serious beef with these guys, I mean, why didn't that same person call 911? the call was made by somebody else about 30 min. later.

message boards full of speculation are hardly helpful in times like these. Anybody with an email address can claim to have been "right there" when it happened. If you truly were right there and have information, get in touch with the CT police department and share your story. It does no good to share it here.

Wherespeaceandlove?

I saw the body... they burned his face... cops were paid off... they stood by and watched the no2 mafia sell balloons all weekend not even 15 ft away... I saw GDF retaliate... It's all a cover-up... Festivals are going to be a war zone now... All I wanted was to be around good people and hear great music.. What would Jerry think of all of this?

To the people who think that it wasn't foul play, don't talk shit unless you actually saw the body- something like that you can't mistake, or erase from your mind...

No2 mafia are shady scumbags, but NOT AS SHADY AS BRIDGEPORT POLICE

0

Ya I heard from a few people at the vibes that the nitrous mafia was super organized and well connected, thats just what I heard but a few people told me they pay off cops, And for the police to say there was no foul play was involved when there obviously was, and after all the speculation flyin around. I thinks its obvious that nitrous mafia was responcible.
