Gavin Newsom Unveils California Governor Bid on Twitter
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has announced that he plans to run for governor of California.
He let his supporters know by sending a message out on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
It's official- running for Gov of CA. Wanted you to be the first to know. Need your help. Check out video: http://tr.im/iOCN and ReTweet
He is positioning himself as someone who can bring change to California politics.
"We've gotten things done in San Francisco by putting politics aside and focusing on finding solutions to tough problems," the 41-year-old said in a statement announcing his candidacy. "State government is failing because the politicians in Sacramento spend all their time fighting each other instead of fighting for Californians. We can't keep returning to the same old tired solutions and expect a different result."
Mr Newsom is in his second term as mayor of San Francisco. In 2004 he gained international recognition when he ordered the city to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples.
Newsom said that to broaden his appeal beyond the San Francisco Bay area, he plans to highlight his background as a successful businessman — before becoming mayor, he founded a wine store that he parlayed into a string of restaurants — and as a politician who has been fiscally responsible. For several months, he has been crisscrossing the state and meeting with voters in markedly less liberal areas such as Stockton and San Diego.
Other potential contenders in the 2010 Democratic primary for governor have been identified as Attorney General Jerry Brown, Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Senator Dianne Feinstein.
Among Republicans, state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman - two wealthy Silicon Valley-based technology executives - are still raising money through exploratory committees, as is former San Jose Rep. Tom Campbell, who is also from Silicon Valley.

Great story. It serves as proof that the Mainstream Media is not the only source for important news.

Think about it.....not only did Newsom make that now infamous comment that gay marriage is here to stay (he was wrong), but back in 04 when he as mayor of San Francisco issued marriage licenses to gays, he was flagrantly breaking the law. I don't think we need a law breaking heterophobic bigot to become governor of California.
