Palestinian medical sources say more than 1,010 Palestinians were killed in the violence, which began on 27 December 2008. Israel says 13 Israelis died, including 10 soldiers in the campaign and three civilians killed as a result of rocket fire from Gaza.

This short war destroyed

much of Gaza.  It wil

l take

years and billions of dollars

to even get back to where they

were last year.

Israeli forces ended their offensive against Hamas in Gaza on Saturday, 17 January, following the declaration of ceasefires by Hamas and Israel.

Highlighted below are some of the main buildings identified as destroyed or damaged in Gaza City and the surrounding area based on analysis by Unosat of satellite imagery taken on 19 January.

The image, taken for Unosat at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, has helped researchers identify at least 1,008 destroyed or damaged buildings.

Compare this to the 2996 Lebanon war damage, below

Damage to property was also heavy: in total, some 12,000 civilian buildings were damaged, among them about 400 public buildings, while approximately 2,000 private homes and apartments were completely destroyed. In addition, 23 schools, four kindergartens and two community centers were damaged. During the conflict, hospitals were damaged in Nahariya, Haifa, Safed and Mizra. One of them - a psychiatric hospital - had to be evacuated.

Significant damage was also inflicted on infrastructure: sewage plants were damaged and, in some cases, sewage had to be released into the sea and atmosphere (by burning). Over 50 km of roads were damaged and 40 km² of natural woodland, as well as 2 km² of cultivated forest, were destroyed by fires caused by the missiles."

These maps show three main things.

There was no widespread damage to Israel.

There was indeed massive damage to Gaza.

Still, a large majority of building in Gaza were undamaged.

"One of the terrible ironies of this of course is the fact that this was the family and this is the home of a Palestinian who had spent a large part of his life working for peace with Israel"

War is terrible and many times the innocent suffer the most.

false info

the idf person above is accounting for more than the gaza massacre dec 2008 and jan 2009 when as the acting idf nowpublic mouthpiece tstates in the same 'story' not the misstated121 but ten times less 12.

the palesinian numbers are also not in line with the facts from the UN and other verified sources.

palestinians mass murdered by idf some with the use of banned war crime tactics and weapons in urban agression, number 1300, not 1191, amounting to a discrepancy some might find trivial when the victims are not israeli. however, the number misstated by the active idf suppporter above (not personal, simply infered) is still almost ten times the number of idf invaders killed, and mourned. as if one can be exact with df and casual with others?

and the 420 children mass murdered by the idf, school kids? all the billions of money that concerns the idf mouthpiece cant bring those kids gruesomely mass murdered in gaza by what most civilized humans would call monsters, from the idf.

and the 50% of kids manourished there, starved by the genocidal tactics of israel in the interest of elections? 9% of the kids under 5 in gaza with brain damage and anemia as a result of the warsaw ghetto blockade of aid to kids with the excuse that hamas has no right to arm itself in self defence of such monstrously illegal aggression with the long siege and attempts to change regime, also illegal if one respects democratic principles over some bar room angry statements, no more than empty threats, provoked by a mass murdering and child murdering invarer, israel?

what a smooth 'story'. congrats nowpulbic on featuring only propaganda, NowPropaganda? thats all there is here except for rebuttal in subservient and unseen replies, mostly removed by NowPublic staff as being unverified?

this moral bankruptcy is what obama is up against. it is the root of consumers' lack of confidence and the financial crisis.

when citizens and news act up and speak out against these old modernist failed excuses for war criminals like the idf and israeli regimes (not all their people for sure, but a majority it seems are accomplice to war crimes) and news losing a bias that the public now knows they can't trust, even less here on NowPublic in World Gaza, a skepticism spreads and crises spread to financial and consumer markets.

the sort of 'story' above is actually a major root to the ills of north america now. NowPublic is feeding that problem, banning those from publishing a balanced and factual opposition, on a flimsy excues that any critique of israel is 'anti-something' but NowPublic degdaring Islamic wonen as ignorant for example, or UN headlines in NowPublic several times as a traitor, liers, is not considered a CoC grounds for removing those propagandist hate-mongers. NowPublic obviously wants no citizen journalism but targets a GOP and extremist audience. That will fail in time. And on the way cause great damage.

First this story came from England.

And if just once one of you closeted people would stop the mname calling ans present facts someone would listen to you.

You are not banned for your views but for your irrational personal attacks on anyone who disagrees with you. When you post gargage like the above you only help the Israeli cause by not addressing even one issue.
