Honduras anti-drug chief Gen. Julian Aristides Gonzalez was shot dead in a car by attackers on a motorcycle. Gen Aristides was the director general of the national office for combating drug trafficking. Just yesterday, Gen Aristides presented a report about drug trafficking, and landing strips traffickers were using. He said the land owners of the properties could face charges.

The nation, mired in political crisis since President Manuel Zelaya was ousted in June, also has one of the highest murder rates in the region.

Gen Aristides was reportedly traveling alone in Honduras capital Tegucigalpa.

The nation is in a political crisis since President Manuel Zelaya was ousted.

Honduras is considered a major route for drugs as they move from South to North America and Gonzalez’s recent report was considered a threat to those involved in the drug trade.

This could be a severe blow to the government's international relations and credibility.

I wonder how the Government will react to this and what actions may follow and most importantly who may take Gen. Gonzales place.
