George Huguely's Criminal Past: Love Murder Not His First Arrest
George Huguely's Arrested for Yeardley Love's Murder is Not His First Brush With the Law
George Huguely has been arrested before, in November 2008 when he was attending an event at a fraternity house off the University of Virginia campus. When the police were called to the scene, Huguely was arrested for public swearing, intoxication and resisting arrest according to the New York Times.

According to the arresting officer that night, R.L. Moss, she said that Huguely threatened to 'kill everyone' at the police station and his behavior was so unruly she had to use a taser to subdue him.
“He was by far the most rude, most hateful and most combative college kid I ever dealt with,” Officer Moss said in a telephone interview.
George Huguely has admitted that in the early hours of Monday morning he did shake Love before hitting her head against the wall repeatedly. His lawyer states that Love's death was a 'tragic accident'.
Although no charges had been filed by Love against Huguely, a report by the Washington Post has found out that about two months ago friends and two current and one former University of North Carolina lacrosse players intervened at a party between Huguely and Love in an effort to separate him from her. The exact details of that incident are not known however and Huguely's lawyer has not commented on it at this time.
University of Virginia Officials Did Not Know About Huguely's Prior Arrest
UVa officials did not know about Huguely's arrest according to the Charlottesville's Daily Progress, and have stated they are going to start screening students more closely.
“Nothing was reported to me,” said Craig Littlepage, UVa’s athletics director. “It was not reported at any time to me that this young man had any of the issues that have been referenced.”
George Huguely was given six months probation and a 60-day jail sentence for the 2008 arrest and he had to perform 50 hours of community service at the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Charlottesville. His probation and jail time were suspended.
The university is now stating that they wish they had know about the 2008 arrest. The law is not required to notify any school when a student is arrested, although they sometimes do make a courtesy call.
Eight players on the Men's UVa Lacrosse team were charged with underage alcohol possession, using a fake ID and driving while intoxicated, according to the Washington Post. Six were found guilty and two were found not guilty. The university said that incident was handled in a satisfactory manner.
George Huguely was not involved in that series of charges.
