From the very first day in office, Joe Biden appears as a fish out of water, a buffoon in a position of importance offering no substance. He is supposed to have a powerful IQ, so I suspect that he is simply bored and lazy.
“Biden’s Visit Capped Weeks Of Provocations
Vice President Joe Biden went to build momentum for peace talks but “Biden flunked,” said a columnist, overreacting to an Israeli “insult” that other diplomats knew to side step. Getty Images

In a few days, Jews will be concluding their seders with “Next year in Jerusalem.” How provocative. In Arutz Sheva, David Wilder asks, which Jerusalem? East Jerusalem, “occupied,” “disputed,” or “conquered,” as is the media consensus, even though that’s where the Jewish Quarter is?
After Israel announced, during Vice President Joe Biden’s visit, that it was going to build an apartment complex for 1,600 Jewish families “next year in Jerusalem,” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton devoted 45 minutes to scolding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Daily News (March 16) editorial remembered when Clinton called Jerusalem “the eternal and indivisible capital of Israel,” but that was in 1999 and 2007 when she was running for senator and president, not 2010 in the service of President Barack Obama.
The Ma’an News Agency, a Palestinian organization, reported (March 1) that a 19-year-old Arab in Jenin said he was “shocked and terrified” when his pet rabbit gave birth to a “tiny elephant.”
“I was concerned when I saw a black baby elephant next to nine white baby rabbits,” Muhammad Alawana, told Ma’an. He said he was baffled as to how the “elephant” was produced.
Palestinians have been “shocked and terrified” quite a bit by the Israelis lately; what the Israelis think of as rabbits are seen as raging elephants. It wasn’t just where Jews were building; it was where Jews are buried. In late February, Israel placed Rachel’s Tomb and the Tomb of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs — the two oldest Jewish historical sites — on a list of national heritage sites. According to the Associated Press (Feb. 24), the move “sparked Palestinian protests” and the State Department “sharply criticized” Netanyahu’s government, calling the Israeli listing of the graves of Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob, Leah and Rachael.
The AP added, the administration’s “displeasure ... had been conveyed to senior Israeli officials by American diplomats.””

Good article. Biden is not my favorite person.

As you can tell, he is not mine either.

I'm not sure I agree with you on this one Jim. Would the situation have been any different if Secretary of State Clilnton had attended the meeting? I think not. The Israelis seem to think that any action that is undertaken by them, is in America's interest. Seems that some US military leaders are arguing that the settlement issue in E.Jerusalem could have harmful effects toward US forces in the Afghan and Iraqi theaters. Special envoy George Mitchell has canceled his scheduled trip to the region and indicates that the recent actions by Israel are not helpful towards the peace process.

Oh the Israelis have a mind of their own, no doubt.
The trouble that I have with Biden is that there is no difference in tone. He has a naturally overly upbeat bent, with imperceptible range in tone. Basically, I don't think people take him seriously.
The Secretary of State possesses the skill set and the position to best handle the most delicate matters. Special envoy George Mitchell knew not to tread in those waters at this time and so did our government. More background work would have uncovered the facts on the ground that would have precluded such public embarrassment.
Now, the US must arrive at a strong response that changes behavior. That will be difficult.

OK Jim, I'll concede the point on Biden, in the spirit of comity! On the other hand, I doubt seriously that the "stick in the eye" would have or could have been avoided. (Short of canceling Biden's trip.) Netanyahu's Likud/Conservative coalition government has been adamant about Jerusalem, and this most recent event sends a strong message to the Obama administration, in a most unseemly and impolitic manner. How and what should be the response by the administration?
With due respect,
Tony

Actually, I don't disagree with you. I just posted another story about this to carry on the conversation.
