There has been a lot of debate on whether we, as a province, should replace First Past the Post with the Single Transferable Vote.  Each side of the debate was given $500,000 of public funds to make their case and, for the most part, they have used that money to repeat the same messages as often and as widely as possible.  I, for one, have many questions that have not been answered.  For example:

How would the Single Transferable Vote change the dynamics of representation for residents of Vancouver?

Get Your Vote On is hosting an event on May 6th that will give Vancouverites an opportunity to ask questions like this. Instead of the usual debate style event, participants will break into small table discussions with experts on the Pro-STV and No-STV sides.

This event is part of the non-partisan campaign’s strategy to reverse low young voter turnout by making politics and democracy meaningful again to the under - 35 crowd.

The event will give young people in Vancouver an opportunity to explore the issues and ask questions in a more interactive format then the usual debate style event.

Get Your Vote On is a volunteer-driven, non-partisan get-out-the-vote effort, founded in 2004. In the 2005 provincial election, Get Your Vote On registered 20,000 voters, organized numerous events, and used a creative text-messaging campaign to engage youth in the electoral process.
