Ghanaian Jasper Kuwornu has been in the Philippines since February 2008.  Hoping to land a slot in one of the country's maritime schools, Jasper's dream went down the drain when his brother, a seaman who was to sponsor his studies, died in a maritime accident.

His efforts of coming back to Ghana became futile having been deported back to the Philippines twice, from Singapore and Malaysia, due to lack of a transit visa.

Since November 2008, Jasper has made the compounds of the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark, Pampanga his home.

His story was published on The Philippine Daily Inquirer's December 27 issue, which elicited the help and support of a number of individuals and organizations.

An Australian company and three Filipinos, all readers of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, have offered help to buy Jasper Kuwornu a ticket for his flight home.

Mark Anthony Delfin, a senior network engineer with the Sydney-based PennyTel, called Kuwornu on Dec. 29 to tell him that the company was willing to help.
