Gina Giovangelo arrives for arraignment

On Friday May 21 the 18-year-old appeared in court in Barnstable but as the CapeCodOnline reports, after telling the judge she was going outside for a smoke she never returned.

A person matching Giovangelo's description was seen driving a white Honda later in the afternoon, but she has still not been found. It is not known how she escaped from the court house, but her attorney Russell Redgate said that she is most likely scared and confused.

"She's a young girl. She's very frightened, very apprehensive, very emotional. ... This is not a good decision."

She had been hiding out already since the accident on Tuesday night.

According to necn.com, Ms. Giovangelo was hiding out at the Holly Tree Inn on Route 28 and they cite investigators as saying that she may have tried to get rid of any evidence linking her to the crash. At the hotel, a maintenance worker had noticed that half of a wheelchair had been placed by the dumpster around the back and the hotel manger recalled seeing damage to a Nissan Altima parked outside.

Gina Giovangelo had checked out Thursday morning, and after the manager called the police and they tracked down the car. She has now been charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death and motor vehicle homicide.

Siobhan White, Lillian White's daughter said that it would have been impossible for Giovangelo not to know she had hit someone:

"They would have known because she's in a wheelchair that weighs a lot because it's run by a motor, she had several oxygen tanks, and she was 176 pounds herself, so I don't think you couldn't know that that was a person in front of you,"

Lillian White leaves behind seven children and three grandchildren.

"She's a young girl. She's very frightened, very apprehensive, very emotional. ... This is not a good decision."Did Lillian White have the opportunity to be very frightened?

Someone must be harboring her. Additionally, she must be found before she harms herself. This happens sometimes. I hope that she can be found and now she should be kept in custody, no bail.

FINDHER

She is only making things worse for herself I hope they find her !!! she needs to be more responsible! IF she had stayed at the scene of the accident and called 911 immediatly she might have been able to save the womens life and her own!!!

Innocent Bystander

Obviously, this woman is a cold-blooded killer, and should be treated as such.

Staying at the scene would not make you perfect, but it would make you human

She should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.  There is a dead woman, and a suspect who fled the scene of the accident.  She may have been drunk, or high or drugs or whatever, but should we feel sorry for her? I don't think so.  Treat her exactly the same as she would have been treated if she'd been an inner city kid who'd done the same thing..give me a break already.

Why would someone in a wheelchair go out late at night by themselves. Lillian White was asking for trouble.
