Rare footage showing life in British prisoner of war camp is going on display at a new exhibition at the Imperial War Museum North in Manchester.
There were over 1000 prisoner of war camps in Britain from World War II, but few moving pictures remain.
Graham Satchell reports.

Well we even gave them tea and cakes and of course the cup of ovaltine before going to bed. However the caviar and champage was of course to much of a luxury. Us Brits really knew how to treat our guest well.
However the POW accomodation in Germany was not 5 star and the cabbage soup and black bread was the only repast most days. No wonder our lads kept on excaping.
The German POW of course prefered to stay put, it was something to do with British hospitality. lol

In fact some German POW married British women and later settled in the UK. Many worked on farms left by guards in the trust of farmer and collected later in the day. Not many tried to escape I think that was a lot to do with the treatment they received.
