GM 2010, recharge your Chevy volt everywhere

You intend to buy an electric car or Hybrid plug-in ?

Not many have a garage with electric outlet. GM teams up with 30 Utilities for Public electric recharging stations. The push is for the Chevy Volt to get the infrastructure running 2010.

Well we are only half way. America having 110V AC outlets would overuse it's electric grid, if many would decide for a fast charge system (like the old Magna charge inductive). GM wants to find solutions now in 50 states with power suppliers.

With petrol up, many would use a real Plug-in Hybrid to run on electricity rather than on petrol, if recharging is convinient, fast and priorty parking/charging for clean cars is available.

SOLARLIFE, I like this story. It's good stuff.

Now if they would actually make them look good as well and easy to park, they may sale some even here in Japan!

Thanks for flag Paschen, Japan may go the same way.

I think Japan will go with Hydrogen Power as Germany already is with BMW, DB and VW.  Honda, Mazda as well in Japan. DB and BMW plan to stop Gasoline engine production by 2015 and convert the hole fleet to Hydrogen .

Pashen I agree, Hydrogen storage avoids the overload of the electric grid. In 2002 I was testdriving the OpelZafira (GM) Hydrogen Van at Monaco, so did Prince Albert. The Hy car has 80 kw practically no sound, you hear only the pumps and was a direct fuel cell to electric motor version (no batteries). Actually I am the Founder of the French Riviera Hydrogen Highway Initiative. So far we have only a mobile Hy station from Linde sometimes. May change when Prince Albert gets his BMW Hydrogen 7.

thanks for flag Caoimhin1, hope you get right hand electric pump for Ireland. FOI Ireland starts to mass produce world's first mobile phone recharge fuel cell at Galway.

I hope GM goes forward with the Volt, but I am not counting on it.  For decades GM has introduced "concept" cars that they were going to produce sometime in the future.  They never do.

Range will always be very limited. Don't forget to figure in the cost of replacing the batteries! If I were buying the first question I would want answered was how much the batteries cost. Electric use will always be limited or thinking will change.  I remember when few people had automobiles. I rode an electric street car to the movie! The fare was a nickel. I was pretty happy.

BAH, thanks for comment, you  mention the batteries, are so many available? Well I believe for Florida with it's flat roads, I would like to ride a Volt electric. You don't have a picture of your electric street car going to the movies? Or upload similar picture, would be nice to see the good old times rolling.
