Certainly good nes to the 2,000 laid off workers recently, put out of work due to gas prices and gas driven SUV's.

One can only hope the wait will not be too long and the existing plant can be retrofitted in time for Christmas and Happy Days will return along with pride and dignity in bringing home a paycheque where everyone needs a break to get through a tough Car industry economy and get consumers buying trucks again in 2009 that for once will live up to the hybrid expectations.

General Motors has changed its mind and will build hybrid pickup trucks in Oshawa, Ont., after all.

So says the Canadian Auto Workers union, which added that assembly of the hybrid truck will begin in the fall.

CAW local 222 president Chris Buckley told CTV Newsnet on Saturday that GM's move was a “glimmer of hope” that the plant may remain open, although there is no indication that plans to close the plant next year have changed.

“It's a small win,” Mr. Buckley said. “We need to take some larger steps to secure the jobs of our 2,600 members that will be affected [by the closure].”

Again Thanks AZZy much appreciated, perhaps Unions will be more reticent to go on strike if they know their jobs hang in the balance by a company on a razor thin profit margin, ready to shut down and walk away.
