God left Zimbabwe the moment we stood by and watched as the Ndebele were being massacred, a moment in a young nation’s past that set the wrong precedent as evil triumphed while the good did nothing. God left Zimbabwe the moment innocent people were beaten, kidnapped, tortured and killed but yet the perpetrators of these atrocities never felt the arm of the law. The Bible says “It is from the Lord that man gets justice” and so should I assume that in place with no Justice God is not present? God left Zimbabwe the moment our leadership used his name in vain as they tried to justify their evil deeds, they invoked his name as they took oaths and swore on the holy Bible to uphold the law and protect the citizen. The book of Psalms says “I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy”, but the plight of the needy in Zimbabwe made me think otherwise as the poor, widowed and orphaned were persecuted in operation Murambatsvina and many other instances. The Lord says,  ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another”, and if those are indeed his words then God left Zimbabwe the moment an innocent white farmer was made a victim of unjust laws, laws that were then exploited by those brutes who are above the law. God left Zimbabwe the moment some of its citizens tried to justify the unforgivable deeds of a brutal regime as necessary evils, because the moment they began to justify the unjustifiable, they began to bare false witness. The world and the Zimbabwean diaspora turned its back on our nation like Lot did to Sodom and Gomorrah, places that were said to be condemned because they were Godless. “Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right”, but in a place where those who stand up for what is right are constantly tormented, one has to wonder if those blessings will ever manifest.

And so if God left Zimbabwe, one has to wonder what stands in his/her place.
