Going to war with Iraq was wrong, Australian Prime Minister admits

Australia is the latest country to pull out of the the so-called "coalition of the willing" in Iraq. Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd has pulled out the country's 550 combat soldiers, saying that the previous Howard administration was wrong to get Australia involved in the Iraq war.

In an admission that will make uncomfortable reading in London and Washington, the Labour leader dismissed one-by-one the reasons used by his predecessor, John Howard, to join the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq five years ago.

"Have further terrorist attacks been prevented? No, they have not been, as the victims of the Madrid train bombing will attest," Mr Rudd told parliament.

"Has any evidence of a link between weapons of mass destruction and the former Iraqi regime and terrorists been found? No.

It was wrong and illegal. Recently, PM Rudd recently apologised to Australia's Aboriginal people for past wrongs. When will the Iraqis get theirs?
