very disturbing footage, I want to believe that the passerby(s) thought he was sleeping and hate to think that they just strolled off without any consideration.

That's what happens in Jamaica Queens. Been happening ever since I can remember. Remember Kitty Genovese ?

For those of you that are not familiar with Jamaica Queens, the area is on the far southeastern edge of New York City. I'm intimately familiar with the area and I've spent much time there throughout the years. It is one of the most crime-ridden areas of New York.
But the ironic thing about areas like Jamaica Queens, is that there are probably more people residing there that would go out of there way and risk their lives to help someone that's being attacked than would those that reside on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
I myself have been a potential mugging victim in Jamaica Queens on at least three occasions. Fortunately, by the grace of God or whatever higher authority, I survived unscathed and somehow I was able to make the muggers, thuggers, and buggers repent their sins and apologize to me for their rude and threatening behavior. All that it takes to clean up a crime-ridden neighborhood, such as Jamaica Queens, is balls, the right tools, the right attitude, and the ability to go into combat-mode . . . .
