GOP candidate for Fossella seat dies

Yesterday brought yet another strange twist in the continuing saga of Republican representative Vito Fossella, who had to resign his seat in the US congress last month after a scandal involving drunken driving, adultury and a secret family. Now the millioanre who had been pegged by the GOP to run for Fossella's seat has died.

The millionaire endorsed by Republican leaders as their candidate for the congressional seat being vacated by Rep.Vito Fossella has died at his Staten Island home.

Relatives say Frank Powers died in his sleep of natural causes Sunday. He was 67.

Powers was a board member of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which runs New York's massive bus and subway systems.
