Defence Scretary, Gotabhya Rajapaksa's life was attempted by an LTTE Suicide Bomber in 2006 in Colombo while there was an ongoing Peace process in the Country. Army Commander Sarath Fonseka was also targeted by a similar attempt during Peace in Colombo and he sustained serious injuries. Timely action by a security personnel which sacrificed his own life only saved the Army Commander.
Gotabhaya attempted assassination suspect arrested
The intelligence unit of the Vavuniya Police arrested the mastermind of the attempted assassination of Defence Secretary Gotabya Rajapaksa near the Pittala junction in 2006. The arrest was made in Vavuniya early morning today.
