The State newspaper in Columbia SC probably knew about the Sanford Affair for months.  The State Political reporter, Gina Smith,  caught the Governor getting off a Plane from Argentina at Atlanta-Hartsfield Airport earlier in the day and had personal e-mails ready for publication shortly after Sanford's confession on national Television.  The State has published several e-mails dating back to July 2008.  Here is an except from The article

Two, mutual feelings .... You have a particular grace and calm that I adore. You have a level of sophistication that so fitting with your beauty. I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light - but hey, that would be going into sexual details ...

Three and finally, while all the things above are all too true - at the same time we are in a hopelessly - or as you put it impossible - or how about combine and simply say hopelessly impossible situation of love. How in the world this lightening strike snuck up on us I am still not quite sure. As I have said to you before I certainly had a special feeling about you from the first time we met, but these feelings were contained and I genuinely enjoyed our special friendship and the comparing of all too many personal notes ...

The plot thickens...

At least, he didn't drag his wife to stand by him like other politicians from both sides of aisle, gallows humor aside.

It's sad for his children though I suspect his strong wife will be fine.

That's nothing!  In the Philippines, the people accepted a President who had at least five mistresses at the same time.  Each one of them were housed in exclusive su bdivisions, with monthly enormous stipends, luxury cars and bodyguards.  Almost all senators and congressmen have at least one mistress; many have more than 2.  It's a fact of life....grow up!  It's demeaning to the familhy  and to the country, but it's the reality....men have no will power or self-control.  They are just like dogs and pigs who can't control their sexual urges...sad!

Hes a Dick.  I hope she sticks to her guns and throws him out....The emails must have killed her!

Agreed.  It would be humiliating for her.  Politicians always get their spouses in the shot so it looks like they support their husband.   She has enough with the press, her feelings, and her children

In America, especially in the south, it is a big deal.  The main issue with lawmakers here is that he left the country without any transfer of power, used a govt vehicle, and charged the state for his travel (he has agreed to pay that back).  Many folks say, "if you vow till death do you part" and violate a vow before God how much more easy is it to break a vow to your state and country.  We all miss the mark... His behavior from this point will determine forgiveness.

Well, I feel sad for his wife because in my opinion he's not in-love with her anymore. He will always love her but these feelings are different. She should move-on, keep the children, give it time, and find somebody else.
