Governor compares gay marriage to incest and what about chaplains
Issues in the news:
I. The Republican governor of Pennsylvania compared same sex marriage to incest. Well, earlier a state adminstration spokesman/ lackey of his compared marriage equality to marrying children. What, nothing about marrying dogs, Gov. Corbett?
Children of course can't sign contracts, so marrying a child versus marrying two men or two women is absurd. The religious right-wing talk about "protecting" marriage, but all they are really doing is protecting their own hateful views of gays and lesbians.
II. Civillian contractor priests (or other chaplains) can't get onto military bases to give religious services. Well, no contractors can who are exempt from volunteering their services, including such people as computer programmers, which are of course much more important to national security then a chaplain.
Now, this has the right-wing up in arms, in fact, many of them have stated that the chaplains rights are being violated. No, they are not. There is no right to give a religious service on a base, any more then I could walk onto a military base and start talking about humanism in a building on that base. By the way, chaplains should not be officers, to allow them to abuse their authority.
III. Back to same sex marriage, a grandfather got upset over his daughter divorcing herself from her son and his grandson. The letter is very poigant and full of emotion. Then again, Catholic leaders, including bishops and cardinals, continue to make very anti-gay statements.
Calling gay marriage or homosexuality as a sin or even evil, even as Pope Francis continues to try to make inroads with gays and lesbians. So while the pope continues to be more diplomatic when it comes to gay rights, his Church and inferiors continue to attack gays.
By the way, if you want to support gay rights, you can become a member of the Human Rights Campaign or a similiar organization.
