Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction in the House of Representatives (DPR) has urged the Indonesian government to call on its Serbian counterpart and the Kosovo people to hold peace talks.

"Although the Serbian parliament has approved a proposal of that country for taking firm actions against (Kosovo`s) independence which was considered unilaterally declared, we believe there are still possibilities of peaceful ways," a member of the faction, Mutammimul Ula, said here Wednesday.

However, he said, if the peace negotiations failed, Indonesia should call for an international recognition through the UN General Assembly.

"This is a multilateral forum involving all members (of the UN). We are confident that international recognition of Kosovo`s independence through the UN General Assembly would have a higher value," he said.

Mutammimul said Indonesia through its diplomatic channels should be pro active in playing a role at international fora.

"A more-civilized international recognition at official fora rather than individual recognition from the United States or the European Union or the UN Security Council," Mutammimul said.

Kosovo, a province in Serbia, unilaterally declared its independence on Sunday (Feb 17) and directly won recognition from the United States.(*) END
