Certainly a sad day, and horrific experience for onlookers and especially children who  witnessed  a trained Golden eagle performing, only to be harrassed by crows and into the waiting mouth of a lion.

Another tragedy for Greater Vancouver ZooTrained golden eagle chased by crows into lion enclosure is killed in front of zoo visitorsChris Parry, Vancouver SunPublished: Sunday, June 29, 2008

METRO VANCOUVER - Staff at the Greater Vancouver Zoo have not had a good year, and that year just got a lot worse.

Still dealing with the tragic death of Jocko the Spider Monkey, and the unsolved theft of his mate, the Aldergrove facility was dealt another blow Friday when a four-year-old trained golden eagle took flight during the raptor show and strayed from the usual course.

An eyewitness, Pablo Su, was at the zoo with his wife, son and daughter, watching the lions when they noticed a commotion.

Wow. That would be really unpleasant to watch. Last year, something similar happened at a Dutch zoo, wherein a monkey was killed by a bear after being unable to escape the enclosure due to the electrified fence. It was captured on video (as these things are), and made its way 'round the web for a while.

Certainly why the Name "A Murder of Crows" applies!

That would be a particularly disturbing image, especially for children. It reminds me of a scene I saw earlier this year: a group of male ducks attempting to drown a female duck.  They were all on top of her trying to push her head underwater.  Apparently it's common ( I don't know why exactly), but the image still haunts me. I thought ducks were innocent!!

Unfortunately what you witnessed was a few ducks "Gang Raping a Female Duck", and the public thinks Animals mate all springtime meadows and butterflies with a warm huggies and kissies like in a Lady and the Tramp sucking Pasta Disney Cartoon.  That my friend Rob is Mother Nature's Breeding process. Believe me, I was as shocked as you when I first learned of the Drakes mating when a small child.  BTW some of the females actually drown doing this act as every male duck around trying to pass on their genes.

Rob Peters

Really? That's horrible. Those poor females.
