Several Schools in Greenville SC Are On Lockdown After a Gunfire Incident on Friday, October 28, 2011

Police in Greenville SC are searching for  a gunman after it was believed that someone shot at a police officer. The Greenville shooting took place on the morning of Friday, October 28, 2011 at an apartment complex near Christ Church Episcopal School.

According to reports, the gunman fired at an officer who was checking out a vehicle with a suspicious license tag. The officer was fired upon and returned fire.

Ten Greenville schools in the area are under either full or partial lockdown as police search for the suspect in a nearby wooded area.

The lockdown is seen as a precaution and students are not considered to be at risk.

Police arrived on the scene after receiving reports of gunfire in the area.
