Greyhound Bus Killer Could be Released in 5 Years According to Psychiatrist

Vince Li, the man responsible for the incredibly violent murder of Tim McLean on a Greyhound bus in in 2008, could be released back into society as early as five years from now according to his first psychiatrist Dr. Stanley Yaren.

Dr. Yaren says that Li has come a long way since he brutally murdered Tim McLean. At the time, Li was suffering from untreated schizophrenia and psychotic delusions.

Dr. Stanley Yaren, Li's original psychiatrist, said Monday that his former patient is making good progress in treatment — and could be released into the community in a matter of years.

"It's really a guess," Yaren said. "But I'm going to say a time frame within five years is not unrealistic.

Li was not found criminally responsible for his actions during his 2009 trial, and Li was sentenced to be confined indefinitely at under heavy security at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre.

At the time of the murder, Li believed God was telling him to kill Tim McLean, who Li thought was a demon.

Vince Li's Health Improving, Release in the Near Future?

Dr. Yaren says Li hasn't heard voices since last fall, and believes that Li's mental health his improved faster than expected. He says Li came to accept that the voices were just illusions after he started his treatment and began taking medication.

McLean's family doesn't believe Li should be let back into society, and disagreed with the initial sentencing. McLean's mother vowed to never let Li reintegrate back into society, saying she thought he was dangerous and 'terrified at his capabilities'.

If this isn't a wake up call that we need to change the Canadian legal system, I don't know what is. I really don't. It makes me want to move to another country.

You gotta be kidding our justice system  fails again. Its the small percentage of society that believes in rehabing like come on he cut a sleeping mans head of and ate him. You can rehab a petty thief but the guys a monster and insane. If you do release him he should be made to live next door to who ever is responsible for his release and see how comfortabe they would be with that. Bet charles manson wished he commited his crimes in canada heck he would have been out yrs ago. Maybe the taliban leaders sneak into canada and turn themselves in we put them on probation and give them housing and jobs. I'm a proud canadian but when it comes to justice it's embarrasing how soft we are.

Whoever's deciding Vince Li's release just doesn't get that it doesn't matter whether he's AS psycho as he was before, the matter of the fact is - HE KILLED SOMEONE, someone who was not only innocent but provided him an act of kindness... there is no way of justifying what he's done.  If you don't put him in jail, at least keep him from killing someone else again.  RIDICULOUS, what more can i say?

This animal should never be released back into the public sector! He might have been found insane by the Canadian judicial system but there are a very high percentage of us Canadian common folk that do not want Vince Li to ever have the chance to repeat his barbaric actions on any of our family members. There is nobody in the mental health field that can ever guarantee this sicko will not start hearing voices or having visions if and when he is ever released from his current address. If Vince Li wants a change of scenery release him into general population at a maximum security prison and see how he handles that!

After he is "cured", retry for murder, and lock him up. Or better do what the improved State in the former USSR did with the famous Citizen X. After being found guilty, have the sheriff march him down a hall, open the door of a dark room, tell him to look at the spot on the floor, and the sheriff behind him fires a bullet in his "cured brain".

Many schizophrenic patients when released often stop taking or only sporadically take their medicine.  This guy is no ordinary mental outpatient.  He should never be released.

*SIGH* Another one for canadas hall of shame. We all deserve our chance for repentance with God but society is not perfect like God and cannot deal with this type of person. Lock him up and see what becomes of him in the prisons. Study his brain. Hes no Hannibal Lectar but he is a unique type of a killer.
