The accused senseless without provocation of the kidnap murderer of a young mother of two infants, has been identified and arrested as a Local "CrackHead" with numerous previous criminal charges against him.

If ever there a time to revisit Capital Punishment in Canada, this certainly makes a "Great  Argument" !

I for one would sleep well at night, if offered to push the switch to eradicate his kind from the face of the earth and others like him.

Provincial police say Francois Proulx was arraigned in Quebec City today.

The accused may face other charges, including kidnapping, confinement and robbery, police said.

On Friday, Nancy Michaud -- an employee of Claude Bechard, Quebec's
natural resources minister -- was taken from her home early in the
morning as her two young boys slept.

The 37-year-old lived in Riviere-Ouelle, about 140 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.

Police say there was evidence of a violent struggle. Her husband came home from work at about 2 a.m. to find her missing.

Update May 19, 2008 ' Killer in Custody"

It has been said the Kidnap murder suspect of a young Quebec mother of two was well known to both Police and neighbours of the slain women.  The suspect was a known Drug Addict, who for some reason was allowed to live within the community amid fears amongst the residents this suspect's prior criminal record  was capable of anything including murder.  The Townspeoples first  instinct once the kidnapping murder was known, pointed to the suspect, in which everyone who knew him, had no doubt whatsoever he was responsible.

A suspect in the killing of political aide Nancy Michaud is expected to make a court appearance Monday, according to the Surete de Quebec, the province's provincial police.

A 26-year-old man is facing a first-degree murder charge, and the prosecution will likely add more charges, said SQ spokeswoman Joyce Kemp on Monday.

Police discovered Michaud's body in the basement of an abandoned house, 2.5 kilometres from her home in Riviere Ouelle, which is about 120 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.

The suspect was arrested Sunday afternoon near where the body was found.

He was considered an "important witness" at the time, said Kemp, but soon became the police's No. 1 suspect during interrogation.

Police speculate the killer is the person recorded on video overnight Friday using Michaud's bank card to withdraw cash from an automated teller in the village.

Michaud, 37, was married and the mother of two children. Michaud's husband reported his wife missing after he came home at about 2:30 a.m. on Friday. The children, 6 years old and 18 months old, were asleep at the time.

May 18, 2008 Update

Here is an update on a story I was following, tragically today Police acting on a tip, found the kidnap victim brutally murdered in an abandoned house 370 Kilometers away from her home. Police have a video of the kidnapper taken by a ATM machine where he forced the young mother to withdraw funds. What would ever possess someone to kidnap a young mother for a few paltry dollars is anyones guess. Hopefully Police will find him and get to the bottom of the reasons of motive in " Why Her?" Why not someone with Money?

Body of kidnapped minister's assistant found The Gazette

MONTREAL - An investigation into a home invasion and kidnapping has turned into a homicide inquiry after police found the body of Nancy Michaud, an assistant to a Quebec cabinet minister, in the basement of an abandoned house Sunday.

A historic small town North East of Quebec City of around 1,200 residents is in shock to find out one of their residents may be the victim of a kidnapping.

One wonders "Why and  Who" would do this to a young mother as kidnappers entered her home at night as her babies were asleep, to be discovered missing by her Husband came home in the wee hours of the morning. It is not known if the kidnapping is related to her work as a Minister aide in Natural Resources or other motives.  Certainly a puzzler why a nondescript middle class Mother would be a target by kidnappers.

I will stay on this story and post any new developments.

MONTREAL - Quebec provincial police used tracking dogs and called for help from the public Friday to help solve the apparent kidnapping of an aide to a high-profile provincial cabinet minister.

"We fear for her life," said Const. Claude Ross, a provincial police spokesman, of Nancy Michaud, a 37-year-old aide to Natural Resources Minister Claude Bechard.

Michaud was apparently taken from her home in Riviere-Ouelle, Que., sometime overnight, police said, leaving her two young children asleep and alone in her two-storey house.
