While a Poll on Wednesday Shows 63% of New Yorkers Oppose a Mosque at Ground Zero, President Obama Shows His Support

Obama stands by his support of an Islamic center near the Ground Zero site in New York, despite some strong opposition from locals and critics around the country. While attending a townhall meeting in Ohio, the President was asked about his comments of support and whether he may reconsider them after such strong opposition has been shown.

"The answer is - no regrets," he responded to an inquisitive reporter.

According to a Sienna College poll published on Wednesday, 64% of New Yorkers oppose Park51, while 27% show their support. When asked if workers have the right to build a mosque near Ground Zero in regards to the Constitution, 64% said that they do have the right, while 28% said that they do not.

Almost 37% said that depending on what happens with the building of the mosque and community center, it could effect who they vote for governor in the next elections. 40% said that this decision will not affect who they vote for.

He has no reason to regret as he stated the fact.

The insensitivity of the Mosque planners and developers is astonishing. They are combative when they should just move up the street. They would make a ton of money selling the property.

Muslims, guilty of insensitivity.

Opponents of the Islamic center, claiming the Muslim community desiring to build the Islamic center are wrong for planning its center blocks away from the former site of the World Trade Center, merely want to stop the building of the center, period.

Given the sum paid for the damaged former Burlington Coat Factory building in downtown Manhattan, just shy of 5 million dollars, a comparable substitute location most likely can not be found for the price.

Though legally, Obama is correct, on an emotional and sensitivity level in regards to 9-11 Obama-rama-dali-lama-expialidocious is wrong and next election may prove to be his last run.

For a time line on how this issue became a controversy see: How the "ground zero mosque" fear mongering began - War Room - Salon.com
The real problem here is that politicians are using this issue for political purposes. Barry O'Regan may be right in his assessment, but I'm not sure this will be the reason for one term. In the long run, this might cause more damage to the Republican's than would be expected. Recent polling suggests that American Muslims vote overwhelmingly for Republicans.

Change the name to the "Prophet Jesus" mosque. Half the people opposing it would probably think it was a church
