NP Rank:
Growing List of Republican Politician Child Molesters (UPDATE 3: Religion & Sex Crime)
Article by Erik Larson
This is a collection of links to more than 70 different Republican child molester news stories. I couldn't find similar sites documenting Democrat child molesting, but if you post links in the comments documenting a comparable number, I'll be glad to update the title to "Politician" Child Molesters.
I am NOT a Democrat; Republican defenders, feel free to post your links to Democrat (or Green, Libertarian, Indy politician) child molesters here as well. I don't know if there's a disproportionate number of child molesters in Republican politics, compared with the Democrats and general population; if you know of studies, post them here. Documented child molesters should not be holding public office, and public servants should not even have the appearance of corruption; molesting kids is about as heinous as it gets armchairsubversive.org.
Perhaps the most egregious example: “Republican Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld authorized the rape of children in Iraqi prisons in order to humiliate their parents into providing information about the anti-American insurgency. See excerpt of one prisoner's report here and his full report here.”
If you have the stomach for it, and need fuel for your outrage, also see the film:
“Conspiracy of Silence, a documentary listed for viewing in TV Guide Magazine was to be aired on the Discovery Channel, on May 3 1994. This documentary exposed a network of religious leaders and Washington politicians who flew children to Washington D.C. for sex orgies." Related: the book The Franklin Coverup by John DeCamp, attorney and former Nebraska State Senator.
Also related to the Franklin Coverup and Conspiracy of Silence, see the June 29, 1989 Washington Times front page article “Homosexual prostitution inquiry ensnares VIPs with Reagan, Bush: ‘Call boys’ took midnight tour of White House”
UPDATE: I posted this article yesterday after stumbling on the site armchairsubversive.org, which has a list of more than 70 Republicans in positions of public trust, mostly politicians, who have been arrested, charged, convicted, plead guilty, resigned after allegations were made or are otherwise connected to the molestation/abuse of children. In Rumsfeld’s case; according to investigative journalist Sy Hersh, "The worst is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking," the reporter told an ACLU convention last week. Hersh says there was "a massive amount of criminal wrongdoing that was covered up at the highest command out there, and higher." Highest command would include Rumsfeld and possibly the White House. The interpretation provided by the bloggers linked to is that “the rape of children in Iraqi prisons [was authorized] in order to humiliate their parents into providing information about the anti-American insurgency.”, and that it wasn’t the actions of “a few bad apples” acting on their own. Despite previous White House denials, “We don’t torture”, it has come out that Cheney, Rice, Tenet, Ashcroft and Powell had detailed discussions of “tough” interrogation techniques to use on suspected Al Qaeda, and that Bush was at least “aware” of their discussions:
In addition to waterboarding and other tortures, did these high officials knowingly authorize child abuse? According to John Yoo, the attorney who wrote the August 2002 “Torture Memos”, crushing a kid’s testicles to get information out of his father is OK; in a December 2005 debate with Doug Cassel, Yoo was asked:
"If the president deems that he's got to torture somebody, including by crushing the testicles of the person's child, there is no law that can stop him?"
Yoo: "No treaty."
Cassel: "Also no law by Congress? That is what you wrote in the August 2002 memo [that went to the president]."
Yoo: "I think it depends on why the president thinks he needs to do that."
There should be a full investigation, including subpoenaed documents and public testimony under Oath from all witnesses and “persons of interest”. Not only is torture illegal and immoral, it’s not even effective; see these articles by George Washington:
Forget Morality, Humanity or Legality: Torture DOESN'T WORK
WW 2 Interrogators Got Information Without Torture
Nancy Pelosi, How Do You Plead?
I wrote the first installment of this “opinion” piece for the following reasons:
1) To offer this list from armchairsubversive.org for debunking if what’s reported is inaccurate.
2) To raise awareness about these people; if you’re in their district or state or country and they are still in office, this is a resource for information so you can take action to shed light and drive them out and make sure they don’t get back in, if they are involved in child molestation.
3) To seek information; as I said above, I am not a Democrat and protecting kids from abuse and keeping those who do out of public office should not be a partisan issue. I welcome links being provided to Democrat molesters, and any studies done on the subject. After searching again this morning, I still could not find studies related to the incidence of pedophilia in politicians, and how it breaks down between Dems, Reps and the general population. According to Wikipedia, “The prevalence of pedophilia in the general population is not known,[52] and research is highly variable due to varying definitions and criteria”. If this is correct for the general population, it’s not likely studies have been done on those holding public office. School starts for me next week, so I will have access to a database of scientific journals, will see what’s in there, and report back here.
4) I am currently a registered Green Party member, but my loyalty is to humanity and the Constitution; imho, the Green Party platform serves these interests the best. Also, imho, the Democrat Party platform represents a “lesser evil” compared with the Republican Party platform. Republicans preach about “family values” and God; part of holding to these ideals would include ridding public offices of child molesters, whether they be Dems or Reps- imho. Unfortunately, I did not find much agreement on this in the comments; the ones from Republican Party supporters were instead filled with vitriol, ad hominems and straw man arguments. This may be part of the explanation for this approach: “A study funded by the US government has concluded that conservatism can be explained psychologically as a set of neuroses rooted in ‘fear and aggression, dogmatism and the intolerance of ambiguity’”. Personally, I think conservative values are not all bad; nothing wrong with family, or with taxes being no higher and government no bigger or intrusive than they need to be to uphold the Constitution and serve our common interest, or with gathering facts before instituting change, etc. Plus, having the conservative perspective and opinion helps to balance the debate over issues so that all views are included and all facts and contingencies considered, so that the best ideas can be produced and refined. As the saying goes, we're all entitled to our own opinions, but not our own facts. As imperfect beings, we need free, open and reasoned public debate; it's how we can sort facts from fiction and come up with solutions to the many problems our world faces.
Thanks to digging by Rene, we have the below 2 lists of Democrats (a total of 12) connected to child molestation to compare to the list of Republicans. Unfortunately, unlike armchairsubversive.org, links are not provided; I checked some of the names, not all, what I found was corroborated. In any case, this is what’s being published online. I would think, considering the wealth and resources Republicans have, if there are more cases of Dems involved in child molestation, more would be published. Those attacking this article would do well to dig them up (if they exist), rather than expecting me to do it; you’ve suggested I’m being disingenuous, so why in the world would you trust me to do it? You’ll probably want to write your own article, but if you dig up facts, I’ll update this article again.
Live Leak- pedophiles, according to the info provided; the rest are “sex scandals”. This list includes 1 Republican.

What a total smear this post is - especially the title. As Joseph Welch said to Senator McCarthy, "at long last do you have no decency sir?" Among other things, Daily Kos is an extreme left-wing site that routinely calls for the deaths of various Republicans, and cheered the death of Tony Snow and the brain tumor of Robert Novak. I hope NP is not turned into a companion site to Daily Kos, but maintains some standards of decency.
at 16:54 on August 20th, 2008
the dailykos summary is quoting journalist Sy Hersh who writes for the New Yorker; how about you support the release of the Abu Ghraib videos so we can all see what's on them for ourselves?
Also, what do you have to say about 75 other entries on armchairsubversive.org? And what about the front page article in the conservative Washington Times? I've updated the article to only link directly to a high rez scan of the story, as I'm really not sure about those other sites.
You might do better tracking down more than 70 Dem child molesters to balance the debate, as you're gonna have a hard time debunking the others.
Don't you care about children being molested? Especially by those entrusted with public office? Talk about indecent
at 16:57 on August 20th, 2008
Don't talk to me about not caring about child molesters. I lost my daughter to a child molester. I still don't like people who engage in general smears as you do.
at 16:59 on August 20th, 2008
I am sorry to hear about your daughter; preying on kids is horrible, no matter who does it; i am sure you can agree.

I don't know who you think you are, but when you republish sewerage about honorable people, you put yourself in the sewer. Donald Rumsfeld was a Navy pilot, he was a Congressman, he served as Presidential Chief of Staff, he served as SecDef honorably for two different presidents. You don't even belong in the same room with him, much less assert that he approved the rape of children.
at 18:28 on August 20th, 2008
you're entitled to your opinion about me, and about what is probably the most corruption administration in US history, with some of the most corrupt people the world has ever seen.
Again, it was Sy Hersh and the Washington Post who reported on what the unreleased video tapes at Abu Ghraib contain; children being raped by US soldiers. Do you think it was a few perverted apples who decided to invent these torture methods and used them without sanction by supervisors and policy makers? If they got orders to commit these crimes, they should have refused them, and are liable for prosecution for not doing so; orders to torture are illegal orders. I will not be a bit surprised if the orders came from Rumsfeld, and even Bush. We already know that torture was approved by the White House, despite their earlier denials.
Loyalty to the US Constitution is the most important thing, and that is what all military, members of Congress, the President and appointees take an Oath to defend.

Bigotry and hate-mongering is always so very unattractive. If I wrote a post about the high incidence of (fill in name of group-- Native Americans, whites, blacks, Hispanics, teachers, grocery store clerks, you name it), I'd be guilty of stereotyping. And, if I selected an ethnically-based group, I'd be guilty of racist stereotyping, and people would say that's a bad thing to do.
Why does that change if the target is named "Republican"?
But, if you're going to do it, then at least be thorough and accurate. Your named target is Republican politicians. Boy, oh boy, do you have a big task.
Do you know how many Republican (or Democratic) politicians there are in America? Let's see, there are national, state, county, city, township, etc.
So now you're obligated to provide a database of how many Republican politicians there are, broken down by subset. Then out of all those Republican politicians--and don't forget those who are politicians within party activities only and then special groups, such as study committees, political boards, civic boards of all types--you're now obligated to provide a breakdown of which ones are sex offenders against children, by all the subsets.
However, if you choose not to do that, then you're just smearing.
Ooops! I just looked and you also lumped in "religious leaders." Does that mean that you think that only Republicans are religious leaders? Never mind--now you're stuck with doing the same thing for religious leaders, of every single type, then of religious leaders, Republicans.
Whew.
So, to be fair, now you can do a study of Democratic politicians involved in sexual misconduct, from children to adultery.
Or was your purpose to only find some small incident that you yourself don't even quantify, and then just post an attack on all Republicans? Based on the evidence I have available here--which is greater than your evidence equating child sexual abuse with Republicans--I'd have to say that you're not providing opinion or analysis, but smear tactics.
Child sexual abuse is a very serious topic. To try to trivialize it enough to use it only as a manifestation of a political leaning is to, in essence, push the damaged children aside for a bigoted smear attempt on some particular group of people.
That's my opinion.
But I'll check back to see if you come up with the stats, all broken down into categories, for all Republican politicians of every type, and then compared against all child sexual abuse incidents. Without anything other than "lookee, lookee, these folks did this or that--or so someone says, I sure ain't offering any specific proof--and so therefore ALL PEOPLE OF THAT TYPE are offenders of the same type" is to model the very essence of racism, sexism, age-ism, and all the other insulting stereotypes that have divided us for so long.
Here's a politician whose son was kidnapped and is still missing almost two decades later: "We need to ensure that members of Congress understand the reality of sexual exploitation of children in America. This is not a problem that can be swept under the rug. This is not about "overly friendly" relationships between adults and children this is about ways children are too often viewed as sexual objects. And this is not about partisan politics. Protecting our children is not a Democratic or Republican issue - it is an American issue that we are all concerned about."
But what does she know, huh? Obviously, she needs to get clued in that her child was the victim of a Republican. That would narrow her search down so very much.

PEP, I was already aware of the news reports of the contents of the unreleased Abu Ghraib video tapes and of The Franklin Coverup book/Conspiracy of Silence film, but i just ran across armchairsubversive.org/com today, which prompted this post.
I'm sure there must be Democrat politician child molesters, and I would like to see studies done on this, if there have not yet been. In my blog post I invited links to be posted to Dem child molesters, as well as to any studies that have been done already, to see if there actually is a statistical difference between Dem and Rep politicians molesting children.
Before i posted this, I googled looking for a website collecting Dem molesters, and for studies. I didn't find studies, but what the search key words democrat + "child molester" returns are almost entirely articles criticizing Dems for being soft on child molesters; change Dem for Rep and armchairsubversive.org/com is the top hit, plus other news articles about Rep politician child molesters. I clicked on about a dozen of the 75+ plus names on armchairsubversive.org; each one went to a mainstream news outlet confirming the info summarized.
As Moonwolf notes below, if armchairsubversive.org or any of the sites linked to were slandering these Republicans and falsely claiming they were charged or convicted of molesting kids, they are opening themselves to lawsuits that the Republicans should be pursuing to protect their "good name" and their political career.
Given that you have taken an interest in this issue, I'm sure you will research and report the results on NowPublic.com. As you say, child sexual abuse is a very serious topic, and I'm sure you agree, molesters should not be holding public office- whether they are Dem or Rep.

Erik, you're the one who posted this story, if you aren't willing to do the leg work then you can't put it off on someone else. I don't know about armchairsubversive.org but I have been on a site that details all the terrorist activities by Muslims ever since 9/11. Moonwolf probably knows the site I'm talking about having called it a right-wing site in another thread.
But I would be remiss if I tried to pawn off that information, which is links to legitimate news sites documenting terrorist activities by Muslims, and make it out to seem like all Muslims were terrorists or even many Muslims were terrorists I would definitely be vilified, as well I should. The major terrorist organizations are populated mostly with Muslims but that doesn't mean anything more.
So, go ahead, spread rumor and innuendo about American politicians and civil servants without verifiable proof, try to convince people that Bush was sitting within site of the World Trade Center on 9/11 eagerly waiting to set off the explosives and do all the other anti-American stories you want.
Go ahead and do this knowing that you are absolutely safe even though you are spreading lies. One parting question: If the Bush Administration is this evil entity aren't you fearful for your life? I mean, you're spreading the truth about their treachery and these are people who get joy out of ordering young soldiers to rape children and murder civilians. Aren't you afraid?
at 21:43 on August 20th, 2008
as moonwolf noted, as "citizen journalists" we aren't held to the standard of the press, which does a shameful job being "objective". The value of websites like NowPublic and crowd powered media is people with all different kinds of perspectives and knowledge can come together to hash out the facts and truth. As I said, i'm not a Dem and I looked for info. If you have proof anything i said in any post, or anything on armchairsubversive.org is a lie, please post it, as you are concerned. You are accusing me of doing and saying things I have not done; I never said Bush was the one who blew up the world trade center and mass murdered nearly 3000 people; i and tens of millions of Americans and growing would like to know who did; why don't you?
And you are free and welcome to post any links here you like; i often follow the links people post, even when they falsely accuse me.
at 22:02 on August 20th, 2008
You are, however, held to a standard--at least by some--of being factual and accurate. Don't hide behind not being a real journalist.
If I write a post that says "All guys named Erik are lying blowhards" and then cite a few that I've known, is that accurate and truthful? Nope. Even if I can give a list of say, 100 Eriks proven to be liars.
This is just simple stuff: accuracy and Logic 101. If all Zoots have brown eyes, and Johnny is a Zoot, then he has brown eyes. If all Zoots have brown eyes and Jimmy is not a Zoot, then he does not have brown eyes. The first is true, the second can not be proven true based on the data presented. Maybe Zings have either brown eyes, blue eyes, or one brown eye and one blue eye.
Bigotry fails these tests every time: logic, facts, accuracy. I've been fighting stereotyping and bigotry for a long time now, and no matter what the (name of group) is, it's all the same stuff.
at 22:15 on August 20th, 2008
Erik, you're a 9/11 truther. You don't really want to know who did it, you already "know." You know it was Bush and his team:
Source: 911truth.org
Read HERE.
at 11:50 on August 22nd, 2008
I think Bush and Cheney should both testify under Oath in public; the testimony the 9/11 Commission took was not under oath, it was in private, it was not taped and their notes were examined before the commissioners left, and were subject to confiscation.
Now, if a Democrat had been in charge on 9/11, would you think that kind of testimony is acceptable?
I'm an advocate for a real investigation, and thanks for posting that list; people lurking here are going to read it and visit 911Truth.org.
See here for a rebuttal of the Popular Mechanics wack hit piece:
Popular Mechanics' Assault on 9/11 Truth by Jim Hoffman
at 21:42 on August 20th, 2008
Nope. I don't have to research anything. As Big T points out--it's your post to defend.
Bottom line here: I, like many others, have an aversion to stereotyping and generalizing ANY group and using smear tactics. If I write something that says "blacks are the primary sellers of drugs in America", someone would challenge that as racist, and someone (hopefully) would challenge and ask for facts and statistics.
Ditto if I write a story about any group--except, it seems, in this case, Republicans.
So why do you think that generalizing and stereotyping, without providing adequate research, facts, and statistics to support even a basic, provable statement such as "Martians are the biggest liars in the universe" is a good tactic to use? Why should smear tactics be presented as a good thing to do? Didn't we have enough of that with the @#$@# KKK and other racists?
Show up with facts and statistics citing all Republican politicians, in all categories, vs. actual crime stats of child sexual abuse, and then you have something to talk about. Right now, this is just as "ist" as old-fashioned racism in the South, and is supported on as good a platform as any "ist".
at 22:03 on August 20th, 2008
OK, that's your defense. Fact is, it is a growing list of Republican politician child molesters. I included with the other links to get feedback/debunking. There's been plenty of feedback, but no debunking yet. Surely, there's a website of Dem politician child molesters to compete with this one, if they exist in equal numbers, which you haven't proven.
at 22:19 on August 20th, 2008
No, it's not a defense. There is nothing to defend--except what you have to defend.
Please read my posts on logic. Erik, what you've posted could not meet a basic standard for logic or debate. It's a smear.
And there's no point in talking about that any more.
at 21:37 on August 20th, 2008
After doing a few diggs and googles of some of the names on this list, find this may be a very valid report. I know I remember the news about the Colorado Rep Larry Jack Schwarz in Colorado very well.
About Rumsfield...hmmm. Americans find it very hard to believe that our 'trusted' reps and their appointees could be capable of this. It's not that they are dumb or stupid. their trust has been misplaced.
Years ago I met a man in the forests of Arizona, hiding out in paranoia. He showed me documents and proof that these kinds of things were part of a huge conspiracy involving publicly esteemed people in our government and executives of the business world, that many of the thousands of children who disappeared were 'recruited' into these child sex rings. I just thought he was another conspiracy nut, it was just too awful to ..... but maybe not.....
there is huge human trafficking, and it extends all over the world. including in America. Canada is not exempt.
at 21:49 on August 20th, 2008
Rene, I would be shocked if the number of Rep politician child molesters is disproportionate to the Dems, and if that is the case, it should be the subject of psychological and sociological studies. I sure hope the Repubs here will find out and report back, instead of wasting their time personally attacking me.
You are right, human trafficking is huge all over the world, including the US. Street kids are the perfect victims for child molesters and they disappear all the time. Conspiracy of Silence is a documentary on the kind of pedophile ring you mention, and it hasn't been debunked, just suppressed and ignored. What kind of documents and other proof did the guy show you?
at 22:08 on August 20th, 2008
OK, Rene, you met a paranoid guy hiding out in a forest, and yes, sex trafficking exists (google some "sex tourism" for openers), and so therefore, you're swallowing the flawed premise that Republicans are child sexual abusers?
Never mind! I'm done here.
at 22:06 on August 20th, 2008
you googled for the wrong term try: pedophiles in democratic party.
here's a couple links and more dems than republs, but both are pretty short compared to the armchair one.

Let's follow your premise along, shall we?
Hundreds of thousands of Germans participated in the SS, Gestapo, and in death camps. Therefore, all Germans participated in the SS, Gestapo, and death camps, and would do so again.
Germans are the kind of people who willingly create and run death camps and groups like the SS and Gestapo.
Germans run death camps, they're like that, you know.
Is that true? No. Is it fair? No. Is it accurate? Can it pass a simple test of Logic 101? No.
Again: Some Muslims are suicide bombers. Here's a list of suicide bombers. See, Muslims are suicide bombers, and we can equate "suicide bombing" with all Muslims.
You'd call that bigoted. And that's exactly what you're doing with your very flawed Republican post.
at 22:14 on August 20th, 2008
Why do you keep saying i said things i didn't say, and avoiding the issue? You're concerned to prove it all means nothing, so show us the equal number of molesting Dem politicians. I didn't say they don't exist; i said I looked and couldn't find it, which is strange, it seems like exactly the kind of thing Repubs would be using to attack Dems with. Have you looked yet?
Also, do you agree or not; child molesters, Dem or Rep, should be exposed and driven from office. Mark Foley's out, as he should be. Hopefully, there will be a real investigation of the crimes of Bush Administration figures, like authorizing torture, but it's not likely to happen with Mukasey as AG; he won't pursue Repubs who ignore Congressional subpoenas, and can't say if waterboarding is torture, even though the courts have consistently held that it is.

Prove me wrong Erik. Show me all the republican presidents who got impeached. I'm betting even you can't do it.
PEACE.

Oh, and another one. A little while ago I covered, on my blog, a story about a liberal talkshow host that partook in this sick act.
Source: conservativeinc.com
at 23:15 on August 20th, 2008
So, I see you've been doing what you're accusing me of; singling out one party. What's described in your post is sick, and people like that should not be in a position of public trust. Now, can you agree that such people should not be in such positions; even if they're Repubs?
As I said, let's see if the numbers are equal, and let's drive them all out of office by shining light on them and their activities

Erik, what you said here makes no sense at all: "So, I see you've been doing what you're accusing me of; singling out one party."
So, instead of posting a balanced opinon about people in high places being involved in child sex abuse, you instead post a smear intended at one party. You harass those who've asked you for a) real data vs. just some guy's list and a film and b) demanded that those who disagree with you do your work in providing data on people in other parties.
Then when someone does the work you failed to do, and provides data on people involved in those crimes from the Democratic party, you then say that they are "singling out one party." That's what you asked people to do!
See my earlier comment to Rene re: circular logic. Go look it up.
There's no discussion here. But there's been a really crafty piece of smearing and baiting.
Good resources on fallacious arguments that fail the tests of very basic logic are here and here. The first one is especially applicable to this discussion.

To quote a line from a movie, "The truth, you want the truth, you can handle the truth" Truth on this site is what you want it to be. Some of you truly believe that "citizen journalism" is a license for lying and/or presenting knowable BS. Now this smacks of too much time on your hands. Besides crappy journalism and will be the destruction of Now Public just as other sites have fallen by the way side in the recent past.
