Miss Universe 2008, Dayana Mendoza is all over the news concerning her comments regarding her visit to Guantanamo Bay. She has been quoted in her blog as saying that her visit to the prison facility was "a loooot of fun".

Obviously this is a very unexpected reaction considering the public is very well aware of the fact that this is not only a prison for suspected terrorists, but also a place where many news sources have revealed the use of illegal torture techniques on its inmates.

One can't help but to associate Guantanamo with a feeling of derision and controversy so to find it "calm and beautiful" is truly ignorant, tasteless and not a popular sentiment - when taken out of context that is.

Beauty queens don't necessarily have the advantage of being regarded as very intelligent people, but rather as having enthusiastically smiling faces and a corditality no matter the appropriateness of the situation or not.

While it's easy to scrutinize and criticize the beauty queen about her comments, it should be difficult for anyone to take those comments as directly in relevance to the prison itself.

What was she supposed to say? Something like "...Guantanamo was absolutely dreadful and nightmarish... there were screams everywhere and the prisoners were treated like animals... it was clear that this was an injustice and i'm spearheading a campaign to make right the daily abuse of human rights...".

Yeah, that's more like it.

She said exactly what she should have said and with the poise we would expect from a Miss Universe. I mean, what should she have said about her unusual visit?
