Rajasthan: Gujjars on warpath

breaking news:

Centre has rejected the demands of Gujjars to incorporate them in the schedule tribe category. The Prime minister referred the letter sent by state government   to the law ministry sub Committee to look into the issue.

But today the center rejected the demands saying that the gujjars do not qualify for the S.T. status. The report says that the "Gujjars do not qualify the 5 Criterion to be included in the ST status. The criterion under which a community qualifies for being under ST status is geographical isolation, economic backwardness, shyness of the tribe, should be a forest dweller and cultural primitiveness.

However, the report makes an observation that this criterion needs to be reviewed. The decision of center has not gone well with the agitators and now the Gujjars are planning a massive agitation at the capital New Delhi in days to come.

Meanwhile The congress M.L.A, M.P blame the government of Rajasthan for the whole fiasco. Sachin Pilot the Congress M.P. from Dausa Rajasthan who was most vociferous is silent on this new development as it involves his party's decision in center.

Will Sachin Pilot resign on this issue from parliament remains to be seen.

The fire of anti-reservation could flare up once again in the country due to mishandling of the issue by the center and the state equally.

also their is a fear of other communities demanding the same status for themselves.

earlier in story:

Rajasthan: The govt of Rajasthan has not yet recovered from the jaipur blast earlier this month and this fresh agitation by gujjar community which has status of OBC demanding schedule tribe status has added fresh woes for the govt.

The agitation has turned violent in last five days as gurjars roam the street destroying the public property. demand of giving them S.T. status in every field has sent shivers in the govt quarters.more than 35 people have died in violent clashes since beginning of the agitation. The leader of the gujjar agitation is not ready for negotiation and has refused talk with the state govt.

Meanwhile the Vasundhara Raje Government has sent a letter to the central govt for accomodating the Gujjars.she has tactfully shifted the onus to the cental government.the silence of the congress led government on this issue is complicating the matters.

Due to the bandh call given by gurjars the life of common man has been disrupted as the trains have been cancelled and roads closed due to blockage by the agitating community.

Meanwhile other communities are angry at the gujjar leaders and have vowed to start an agitation if the govt accede to the demands of agitating gurjars. the state government is in catch 22 situation on this issues. Adding fuel to fire Sachin Pilot the congress M.P. from Dausa stated that Vasundhara Raje should Quit. But when asked by media whether centre would accede to the demands of Gujjars he was silent. for full story go to
