A man has shot dead at least six people near the northern Bosnian town of Tuzla, police say.

One more person was seriously wounded in the shooting, which took place at about 0600 local time (0400 GMT).

The gunman, said to be 45 years old, reportedly killed three people in their homes and another three on a bus.

The Tuzla region, in the Muslim-Croat Federation, is home to thousands of mainly Muslim refugees from other parts of Bosnia displaced in the 1992-95 war.

However, it was not clear if the man had any political motive.

Police and witnesses say he entered two family homes in the village of Gornja Lipnica, killing two people in the first and one in the second.

He then entered a nearby bus, killing another three people and wounding the driver, before being arrested.

Witnesses said the man was a local resident, who had been behaving strangely for some time and suffered from depression.
