When the avian flu scare arrived, no one questioned it. This time, things are different. Those with some brains, a memory and internet ingenuity are on the case. Let’s hope this message gets out.

Tamiflu is an antiviral medication used to treat influenza. It will be the prime medication sold to protect citizens from swine flu as it was for avian flu. All healthcare workers, military and essential service workers will need a dose available and it will be bought with your tax dollars.Tamiflu is made and patented by Gilead Sciences and Donald Rumsfeld was the chairman of this company before he joined the Bush administration. When the Avian Flu scare flashed across the television sets of Americans, Gilead Sciences stock went through the roof

First, I want to thank the writer of the cited material. They have shown great courage in publicizing their position. More importantly they displayed the intellectual prowess to rationally and logically explain their position.

At the same time, the H1N1 Swine Flu Pandemic does not require a conspiracy theory to explain why it is simply false or a hoax. A simple examination of the facts and the application of the definition of words show it to be false. In my case, after the first few days went by with only deaths in Mexico, I started to become suspicious.

I kept wondering, "Where are the world wide deaths? Surely if this killed 100 in a couple days in Mexico, more deaths would occur quickly where ever the H1N1 Swine Flu outbreak appears in other countries. Various varieties of the flu make there way around the world every year. Every year more people die from the various strains of "non-pandemic" flu than have died thus far from the misnamed swine flu. Thousands die each year from flu strains that are never labeled “Pandemic” To date, May 1 2009, after more than 8 days of Media Hype and 29 days of identified existence, there are only 260 deaths. The official, confirmed death toll is 12. Simply changing the definition of what constitutes a pandemic does not make this Flu a Pandemic anymore than my defining wealth as having more than 100 dollars in the bank, makes me wealthy. It is dishonest and misleading and worse, in this defining this a pandemic, immeasurable worry and economic damage has been done.

While I am not beyond believing profit could be the motivation for labeling this swine flu strain as pandemic, the economic impact on other equally powerful and ruthless business interests makes this unlikely. If an alleged shadow government exists, during the discussions of what was going to happen next, surely the airlines, shopping mall real estate owners, sports teams, mass transit titans and any other business that required or created crowds to make a profit would have objected.

My preferred position would be that this is just runaway media hype enabled by poorly reasoned definitions of Pandemic lacking insight into foreseeable negative consequences, by the World Health Organization.

That having been said, for the Conspiracy Theorist amongst you: My first cynical thought is that the Mexican had a politically motivated reason for creating a crisis. Such a motive might have been to get powers, or to be released from constrictions of power, that is provided for in Mexican law in the case of a Pandemic. Or, to cover up some other bad news item about to go through the media news cycle. In any case, the story leaked beyond its borders and the rest of the world media, without double checking the facts, jumped on the story to create increased readership and increased revenue.

Another thought would be that some negative news event might have been about to enter the USA Media News Cycle and the US publics attention is being diverted from it. Tea Parties come to mind. and accounting for the 700B bank bailout funds come to mind, AIG comes to mind. AND THE BIGGEST THING TO COME TO MIND IS WHY DEMOCRAT REP. HARMON AND FORMER AG GONZALEZ ARE NOT BEING CHARGED WITH TREASON. See Wiretap Recorded Rep. Harman Discussing Aid for AIPAC Defendants Democrat Harmon was taped by the FBI offering to kill prosecution of spies in exchange for help getting appointed chair of the House Intelligence committee. Then Republican AG Gonzalez killed the Justice Department investigation so Harmon could help defend Republican President Bush in warrantless wiretap hearings. Governer Blagojevich selling a senate seat is not even in the same league as this act of treason and betrayal of the American trust and compromise of American Security.

And finally, one more conspiracy for the more paranoid cynics among us: The USA Government expects Political unrest this summer resulting from the poor economy and corruption related to the bank bailouts, AIG and the 2 Trillion dollar stimulus bill. See Jim Rogers on Bloomberg: There will be civil unrest in the U.S. and other countries (03/17/09) In the USA, the political unrest has gelled into the Tea Party Movement. Perhaps the alleged H1N1 Swine Flu Pandemic is being formed to create the opportunity to declare martial law and prevent public gatherings like the upcoming Tea Party events. Or other political unrest gatherings. Just a thought.

I look forward other True Citizens stepping forward and commenting on whether they believe alleged H1N1 Swine Flu Pandemic is either just simply false on the facts, or a hoax, or hearing your particular speculation on any possible conspiracy theory. Or state the factual and logical case for it be accurate and true.

I'm going to go with "False on the facts." Not sure who got the media all wound up on this but it reminds me of the SARS episode back in the earlier parto f this decade. 36,000 people died from the regular flu last year, so I'm trying to understand why the media is blowing this out of proportion. But then I have trouble understanding anything the medie does.

O by the way I'm not a "conspiracy theorist"...because this isn't really a theory...it's fact. Doing a little "connecting the dots" doesn't make you a conspiracy theorist, it just shows you can think for yourself. Stop letting the media tell you what to think!

Thanks for the story, but I wouldn't say no-one questioned it -lots of people have and such subjects continuously, if you look in the right places...etc.

- Kinda seemed to have eclipsed a lot of other major news stories that will no doubly fall by the wayside, US torture camps/policy and alike...also why it broke out where it did, and that the strain has never been seen before/highly unusual (human, H1N1, H5N1 in the mix). Also why they said initial deaths were in the teens (so not to cause "alarm"!, then reports of hundreds came out from dr's in the field.?

Always good to try and to do a search of keywords on a subject before writing a story. Saves on duplicating info' etc.

It is one thing to form ones own opinions and keep them to yourself,

It is another thing to share those opinions and rational with your friends and relatives.

It is yet another thing to post them in obscure blogs and like minded arenas of dialog.

It is a whole different thing to put yourself out to the general public on a well read site like NowPublic in contradiction of official "Government Position" and subject yourself to ridicule by the general public and scrutiny of the Government Thought Police.

I did not see contradicting opinions in the main stream major media. If there are many others that were questioning the validity of the alleged Pandemic, I did not see them and I did not look for them because I was confident in my own assessment.

It was not my intent to disrespect others who less publicly rejected the Government position but to recognize someone who reasonably and rationally confronted the prevailing media in a manner that came to my attention first.

In this time of eroding Civil Liberties, I respect any fellow being willing to publicly express their criticism of the government and other powers that be.

I guess I dont know what to say... Some of us buy into panic and hype, and some of us just go with the facts. As of about 1030p US Central time 05/02/2009 the World wide official Confirmed Death toll after about 30 days of this Pandemic is 20 TWENTY. 19 in Mexico and 1 in USA (In Texas on the Mexican Border) My source <here>

Pandemics do not care about political borders. This stuff has spread to several places around the globe. 20 deaths does not a plague or pandemic make. The regular flu every year cause about 36000 deaths. Call me when we hit 36001.

The current Flu situation is most certainly NOT a hoax nor are the makers of Tamiflu responsible.Carelessness and negligence seem to be what has led to us to what could be potentially a very real concern.

Anyone who is familiar with Smithfield Foods should seriously wonder how they are not somehow complicit in the current Flu situation. This company is the largest hog producer and pork processor in the world, generating over 11 billion dollars a year. They have a long and well documented history of questionable behavior going back as early as the 90's. They are a vertically integrated company, which means they have complete control over the hogs from birth through processing.They have also been using genetically engineered pigs for years in certain products. The list of complaints for pollution and environmental contamination is quite long; and includes problems in the United States as well as Poland and Romania. Smithfield was fined 12.6 million dollars for violating the Clean water act. They were found to have 5,000 violations exceeding permitted levels of fecal coliform and phosphorus. These pollutants flowed into the James River,Pagan River, and Chesapeake Bay for more than 5 years.Smithfield has been fined for anti-trust violations and falsifying documents in the past. They have had questionable issues with unions and hiring illegals in the United States. They were responsible for contaminating Cape Fear after Hurricane Floyd . These records are well documented on the internet. Given this history and the fact that this town in Mexico has been troubled for many years by Smithfields negative environmental actions seems to certainly make them somewhat suspect in the current situation. It is a scientifically noted fact that the pig is an ideal mixing vessel for certain viruses. Springtime is also considered "flu season" for pigs. When the threat of illness is over, we should hope that Smithfield Foods will be at the very least be investigated; and made to provide concrete proof that they in fact did not fall short on their responsibilities. It is ironic that we now need to refer to this illness by a corrected name, It would seem that is more for the protection of the pork industry than to quiet any panic among us. Smithfield lobbyists must have pushed for the name of the disease to be quickly changed. I for one would be very interested in knowing how much Smithfield contributed in campaign contributions for our last election.

The article doesn't say the owners of Tamiflu are responsible for swine flu. It also doesn't say the flu isn't real. What it does say is there are corporations willing to exploit this issue to make a lot of money. The swine flu didn't warrant the mass anxiety imposed on North Americans via the media. The anxiety will cause more health issues than the swine flu ever could.

Someting is very smelly here. I think there is a deliberate attempt to cover up a deliberate Bio-Weapon release. Just because there is a scare to bolster Tamiflu stocks dos not mean they didn't validate their effort by releasing a Bio- weapn. Google Polish Homeless Vaccince trial, and Baxter dead ferrets from vaccine. Secondly if it was just to scare the public they would not be closing entire cities and the schools... Remember do your homework. Spanish Flu fragments have been founf in this. Spanish flu is BSL Level 3, and only existed in laboratories (it was ressurrected in 1999)

There is no doubt that the producer of Tamiflu is going to make huge profits with Swine Flu. However, it does not mean that we should not be concerned about Swine Flu. H1N1 is much more dangerous than normal flu. So far the fatality rate is elevated over what is normal for flu of any kind in the US (.625% compared to .12%) almost 6 times more. People who usually die of flu every year are old or sick people who have little resistance and low immune systems. H1N1 has killed healthy young people with strong immune systems. There is no comparison to normal flu and there is real reason for concern. What’s scary about H1N1 is that it has never been seen in a human strain before. To make it simple, swine flu has evolved from contamination being related to direct contact with pigs or from eating raw pork to human to human contamination. This is why it is called a Pandemic and it has spread to 20 countries so far. This virus could mutate again and become even more deadly and such pandemics come in waves. Which means it will reach a stage which seems to be over to only start again and spread even faster. You should all be concerned! Now if you all think that H1N1 is a manmade virus, then that’s another story. A story which I have no idea if it has any founding’s and I cannot comment on. But don’t play down the danger of H1N1.

yeah... as of today about 20 confirmed deaths of H1N1 in Mexico.

Reuters is constantly talking about around 200 deaths... and even if it was so, more people die of regular flu than of H1N1. I wrote to Reuters about this error in their data, no answer of course.

Oh, I'm in Mexico btw. Here the paranoia is high. People are wearing those masks that are really useless against a a virus. Even the masks from hospitals which supposedly are better than those the general public can buy, last for a few hours before becomgin useless.... and people are wearing those painting masks for days and days...

I agree it looks suspicious and there could be an angle here to make money for the drug companies but why would Mexico be a part of this with the start of their tourist season? That doesn't make any sense. They stand to lose millions of dollars in tourist revenue from cancelled vacations...Last week MSNBC and NPR were reporting 86 deaths in Mexico, today I heard on NPR they are reporting 26 TOTAL deaths. Something isn't right here!

Just my 2 cents. This could be some sort of facist/bigot way to make visibility of Mexico/U.S border issues that are hot and heavy. maybe we can investigate Rush L. The ancillary benefit is that we are stocked up on canned food, masks, clean gell, which boosts the economy. A good training exercise for all countries in preparation for an actual pandemic. I agree with an above post, call me when it reaches 36,001 deaths (btw, 36,000 divided by 300,000,000 = .00012% for the average flu deaths) or vs. 20ish (20 deaths divided by 300,000,000 = .0000006667% for h1n1 deahs). sounds like a good training exercise for the world to stock up on canned food, masks, etc. to help the economies, divert attention from all that is suggested as other conspiracies. I think it would be amazing if all the possibilities could actually be coordinated and could make sense. in any case, the regular flu sucks and i just got over it and wash your hands everyone and get extra canned food just in case and try to get a good night sleep. Another possible "conspiracy" that I have not yet heard mentioned is that this might have been an opportunity to get some real world practice for a much more deadly type of emergency - such as a bioweapons release. Think about all the good practice that state and county health departments along with the CDC got. It's not so far fetched. Many people talk about how the 1st Gulf War back in the early 90's was an opportunity to test new military weapons - perhaps along those same lines, this was an opportunity to test newly designed emergency preparedness action teams at federal (CDC), state and county levels.

you forgot to mention that this same flu scare was also tried in 1976. It was discovered that more people had issues with the vaccines themselves, not the "flu". It was so bad that congress stepped in and demanded that this flu shit be stopped. So some 33 years later and we got the same bullshit, just with a modern theme. It does make one laugh when you can see how scared some people are wearing the surgeons mask, which would never prevent you from catching shit

If this is killing about 1% of the infected people and only 1/3 of the world population gets H1N1, then 1/3 of the population fo 6778792699 (6.7billion) = 2259597566 (2.2billion) times 1% = 22,595976 deaths if only at 1% mortality. Just some numbers based on the world population

I’m interested in all of this mass hysteria about swine flu, true or false. Who are behind it, if it’s a hoax?

First swine flu itself is not a hoax, it a virus. More deadly and dangerous that other flu's. Don’t think so. Does this flu need.10-20 minutes cover on the News every day. No.

I don’t have sources to verify these statements, but they are based or research, news articles and common sense.

News corp. are own by Rupert Murdoch. Who owns the majority of all News, TV, Radio, Newspaper, Internet News pages, and so, you get the point. As well he say to all of these news channels that they should cover this case, they have no other option to obey.

Most of the Major News Channels are sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry. So they are earning a lot of money by reporting stories like, Swine flu, Sars, Bird Flu.

And the pharmaceutical industry earning their share because of every government is buying in tamiflu medicine for the entire population of the country.

Mass panic amongst the normal population is a way of control. Is Global warming, Global financial crises, Global flu pandemic, Global Fear about Terrorism?

My statement is that all of this Global crises, pandemic and fears have been created since 9/11. Before we didn’t hear much about it. We had the cold war and the communism, before that it was Vietnam, and before then WW2.

PS: Just another thought, Western Economy is on the bottom, large cooperates and banks are going bankrupt, our we borrow money from the east, and we are borrowing more money to buy tamiflu. Maybe it a good way to put some money back into the US, with borrowed money. THOUGHTS ??????
