Haiti Parliament Rejects Prime Minister Nominee
For the second time this year, Haiti's parliament has rejected a nominee to be the country's next prime minister. This time it's Robert Manuel, a former security chief and friend of President Rene Preval, who has been rejected.
Haiti's parliament has rejected the nomination of presidential adviser Robert Manuel to be the nation's next prime minister.Lawmakers say Manuel failed to meet basic qualifications for the No. 2 post, arguing that he does not own property in Haiti and is not registered to vote.
The Chamber of Deputies' 57-26 vote Thursday means the impoverished country will enter a third month without a head of government or Cabinet. The Senate ousted Prime Minister Jacques Edouard Alexis on April 12 following days of food riots.
Manuel, a former security chief and friend of President Rene Preval, is the second nominee Haitian lawmakers have rejected so far this year.

There's no real public transportation system as in the popular sense (ei: government operated metro) in port-au-prince, but everyone gets around in things like this: converted trucks, trailers, pickups, school buses and vans seriously tricked out on a budget. These "cabs"; are privately owned and the drivers trick-out their rides with bright paint, wood carvings, murals of famous musical artists, and words from pop music, American movies, and the Bible. The flashier the ride, the more people will want to hop in--even though they aren't the safest things to ride in and neither the driver nor the rider is likely to have any sort of insurance.
