Haitians Riot Over Soaring Food Prices

Haitians stormed the presidential palace in Port-au-Prince to demand the resignation of Rene Preval, the country's president, while going on a rampage in the capital over soaring food prices.United Nations (UN) peacekeepers drove them away from the palace on Tuesday firing rubber bullets and tear gas.
The rioters, however, had left trails of destruction across the capital by late afternoon.
Concrete barricades and burned-out cars blocked streets, while windows were smashed and buildings set on fire from the capital's centre up through its densely populated hills.
The UN Security Council has pledged to support Haiti's government amid growing anger across the country over the cost of basic foodstuffs.

moonwolf, I like this story. It's good stuff. Haitans think food is scarce now and rising prices, just wait till the Al Gore Biofuel bandwagon takes hold. Food such as grains normally reserved for Third world countries will be so expensive as prices for this food will be more lucrative for farmers and COOPs to sell as Biofuel, leaving empty bellies of children everywhere. As I have reported numerous times on here, when you do one act in saving the environment, you may kill humankind in the process. Certainly no one gave it much thought on what Biofuels will do to third world countries in our quest to be environmental concious elsewhere.
