Haleigh Cummings Body Not Found After River Search
The Body of Five-Year-Old Haleigh Cummings Has Not Been Found Despite Rumors
Sheriff Jeff Hardy disputed reports on Wednesday April 21 that the body of five-year-old Haleigh Cummings had been found last week during a search of St. John's River in Florida.
There were media reports circulating that Haleigh's body had been found and Nancy Grace questioned on her blog on CNN on if the cops had found a body. However, her body has not been found.
"A rumor has spread throughout our community that her body has been located. This rumor is false," Sheriff Jeff Hardy said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.
During a search of the river the investigators found animals bones and teeth and they had showed these to Misty Croslin, the last person to see Haleigh alive, while she was down on the dock. Art Harris from The Bald Truth, an investigative reporter, said that the investigators in the case thought these bones belonged to Haleigh. They do not however.
Haleigh's family have been told that they need to decide how they want to proceed with Haleigh's memory; if they want to have a funeral for her without a body or if they want to wait.
In the state of Florida a person has to be missing for seven years before they will be declared dead and given a death certificate. However, a family can ask for a death certificate before the seven years are up if they go in front of a judge.
The police have said that they have 'persons of interest' in the case, but they are still not saying who.
