Hanukkah celebration turns tragic: car crash injures 14
Car crashed into a party, injuring 14 people during the celebration of Hanukkah in Long Island, New York.
New York police say an out-of-control car slammed into a building where Orthodox Jewish families were celebrating Hanukkah, injuring 14 people.
Nassau County police Officer Patricia Tanksley says the 76-year-old driver lost control of his car Thursday afternoon and slammed it through a plateglass window of the Long Island building.
About 150 people were inside the Woodmere building, celebrating an all-day event billed as Chanukah Wonderland for the Chabad (CHUH'-bahd) Orthodox Jewish movement.
A Chabad website advertised a funhouse and other events geared for children.
Tanksley says 14 people were injured.
Their ages and conditions weren't immediately available.
No one was available for comment Thursday at the Chabad offices on Long Island.
