NP Rank:
Harold Ford Jr: N.Y. Senate Race Gillibrand vs Harold Ford Jr?
Harold Ford Jr, comfortably ensconced as a banker with Merrill Lynch in New York is reportedly considering a run for the mid-term Democratic Senate seat against Kirsten E. Gillibrand
Hillary Clinton now Secretary of State left her position as Democratic Senator for New York which is currently being filled by substitute Kirsten E. Gillibrand.
A forum post on Democratic Underground mentions a New York resident receiving a phone poll posing the question about a Senate run for Harold Ford Jr.
"I live in NY and was just polled about a possible primary between Kirsten Gillabrand and Harold Ford Jr. for the Senate seat. I was wondering if anyone had heard if he was considering to run?"
That Harold Ford Jr would consider throwing his hat into the ring against the rookie Gillibrand should come as no surprise. He apparently has the backing of Wall Street and Mayor Bloomberg is also considered a supporter.
Having said that he is on the far right of the Democratic Party and he actually lost a high profile well fund senate run in Tennessee in 2006.
Having said that Harold Ford Jr. candidacy would certainly raise eyebrows if not down right ruffle some Democratic feathers.
Gillibrand is an incumbent so Ford would definitely have to have a serious game plan to win.
Officially, Harold Ford Jr. has in the past that he has no plans to run - plans of course can change depending how the political winds blow.
Perhaps, that forum post is merely one of those trial balloons.

As a liflong registered Democrta in NYC, I am appalled that both Pres. Ovbama and Congressman Shumer are so scared that they are trying to get someone from runnign against Gillebrand. I will not vote for Her nor will I vote for the democratic oppressor Shumer. I respect Gord for going for it against powerhouses and hope he sticks it out. This story is scary as we are supoposed to be in a democracy not a tyranny. Electiosn are supposed to be open to qualififed opponents. Are Gillebrand, Shumer & pres. Obama so scared that she will lose if faced w/a genuaine election? Keep on like this & NYC voters will vote for anyone not Gillebrand out of sheer disgust. Mr. Ford, PLEASE JOIN & STAY IN THE RACE!!!!!!!!!
