Prior to returning home from his G8 meeting, Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada had about a 30 minute audience with the Pope Benedict. 

During their meeting they discussed how the G8 progressed, concentrating on Climate Change and Human Rights.

The Pope and the Prime Minister agree on abortion and stem cell research.

Canada is one of very few nations that has kept it.s commitment with aid for Africa.

During the visit the Pope was presented with a pink vase and the Prime Minister received a fountain pen from the Pope.

The Prime Minister's family also met the Pope along with some of Prime Minister Harper's delegation and some MPs.

ROME -- Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his family wrapped up a four-day trip to Italy on Saturday with an audience at the Vatican with Pope Benedict.

Harper, coming off the Group of Eight summit in nearby L'Aquila, was the fifth national leader to meet the Pope, following leaders of the United States, Japan, Korea and Australia.

The prime minister and the Pope opened their meeting with a brief French language exchange on the G8 summit -- for the cameras -- then conversed privately for 20 minutes.
