Poor Sarah Palin. Everyone has been attacking and mocking her over the last couple of days. Well, actually, it's been the last couple of years. Ever since she first came onto the scene, she has been the target of intense scrutiny and ridicule, probably every since her July 2008 interview, when she said that she did not know what the Vice President was supposed to do. From there, pundants and comedians have been having a field day. But is this fair? Are they unnecessarily beating up on this woman?

You know, typically, I would really feel bad for her. Here she is, a young, attractive, ambitious woman that worked her way up from a small town Alaskan girl to the prominent political celebrity that she is today. Just in the last two years alone, her life has completely changed. It really is impressive. She's charming, and cute, and can be fun to watch when she speaks. But it's what she says when she speaks...that is the problem.

Maybe it's just me-- I dunno-- but when it comes to politicians, I want them to be smarter than me. Hell, they should be smarter than MOST people. I look at Barack Obama, and it would scare the crap out of me to have to go up against him intellectually-- that's one smart man. But when it comes to Sarah Palin, there is no fear.

Sarah Palin, by no one's fault but her own, has demonstrated that she hasn't an ounce of intellectual curiosity. Is that a bad thing for a person? Eh...not really, I guess. I mean, I'm not interested in someone like that-- but that's just me. There are people out there who just don't like to read. They don't want to know what's going on in the world. They just don't want to have to think about anything. And when they do, it's like the whole world is caving in on them. Mrs. Palin has great ambitions, but lacks the intellect to follow them through. Again, it's not really a prerequisite to be a human being that you have to be a brainiac, too. However, people expect more from their public officials.

And it's not even that she is not an intellectual. It's her smug, holier-than-thou attitude in the face of her anti-intellectual being that is unbelievable to me. She mocks "elites" and "professors" and people who think-- criticisms that many so-called Conservatives have come to embrace, as if it's a bad thing to use your brain. When I was a child, we were taught to strive for excellence. We wanted to get the best education, to better ourselves, to make more money, and to be at the top of our fields. That was what many people strived for. What happened to that? Is this anti-intellectual junk being taught to kids today? Are kids of today being told that only "liberal pussies" yearn to be educated? Only "cocktail-drinking fags" want to be successful? Is that really okay?!

The thing is, it's NOT okay. I STILL believe in excellence. I STILL believe in education. I STILL believe in working your way to a better life. And yes, I think that reading books longer than 100 pages (with and without pictures), and traveling to other countries, and eating different foods, and watching foreign films, and going to cocktail parties, and embracing different people and different cultures, and visiting museums, and all that "snobby-fag" stuff is important to evolving and growing as a human being. Sarah Palin does not.

Mrs. Palin's world view is about the size of an edamame. And she does not care. She is about as literate as a fruit fly. And she couldn't care less. Mrs. Palin has absolutely no interest WHATSOEVER in ANY intellectual pursuits. Neither do her supporters. And they laugh at, and make fun of, anyone that does. And you know what? That's fine. For them. But in a world that is getting increasingly more competitive, it's going to take more than lobbing bombs at our enemies to compete. While Palin's ilk is wallowing around in their own ignorance, the people of Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, China, India, Russia, and other countries are becoming more and more educated. Our power in the world is slipping away because we, as an entire nation, scoff at education. And as long as we have leaders that do the same, we will continue to get dumber and dumber.

We don't hate Sarah Palin. I'm sure outside of the world of politics, if you were just sitting around shootin' the sh*t about regular stuff, she may very well be a delightful person. But she has NO BUSINESS as a political leader. I mean let's face it, we all have worked with (or are working with) someone that is a great person...but they SUCK at their job. It doesn't mean that we hate them. We just wish that they were doing something else. Unfortunately, the people who support Mrs. Palin cannot criticize her, because she is the ONLY ONE out there doing ANYTHING for the GOP. She is popular. And that's what they need right now-- they NEED VOTERS. Unfortunately, Mrs. Palin has fans. Fans that don't really know the issues, but they know they like her. And they HATE Obama. Is that really a reason to elevate someone into national prominence for a political party?

The GOP is a mess. They're hoping that Sarah Palin can help clean it up. But the GOP does not need an ideologue/maid. They need some brains. And right now...they just don't got it.

A good presentation of your views. I will come back to this when I have time for a full response. I will say I did not, would not vote for Palin but I don't see her in any way as stupid.  Wrong, maybe but not dumb.

Hey! Way to rectally derive your facts, Copernicus! Ad hominem, ad hominem, ad hominem. Folks, for just $3 a day, you can help those suffering from Palin Derangement Syndrome. You're not going to shut her up. Your unhinged hatred is not going to make her go away by sheer force of will.

Wow. You said more to prove my point in four sentences than I did in my entire article. Never mind the facts. Never mind a rational debate. It's just screed-screed-screed. Anti-intellectualism is alive and well. Good job.

Great article!  Palin is poison for this country and for those hoping for rational political discourse.  In short, a model Republican.  I wish I could say I don't hate her, but her blatant fear-mongering has caused irreparable harm by leading people horribly astray.  I can't stand that.  Never mind that she is the intellectual inferior to a horses' ass (ie. suggesting Obama declare ware on Iran to help him look stronger and more electable in 2012) but she wouldn't know anything if not for her handlers coaching her.  Still, she's good to have around for comics and late night TV hosts who, like me, are waiting breathlessly to see if the next stupid thing that comes out of her mouth is worse than the previous one.
