WASHINGTON -- The Canadian Embassy in Washington has dismissed a report someone with Barack Obama's campaign called Ambassador Michael Wilson to say U.S. election rhetoric against NAFTA isn't serious.
Obama also denied it yesterday, telling reporters aboard his campaign plane: "It wasn't true."
CTV News cited two unnamed Canadian sources Wednesday in saying an Obama staff member called Wilson to warn him there would be anti-NAFTA statements but they shouldn't be taken at face value.
"At no time has any member of a presidential campaign called the Canadian ambassador or any official at the embassy to discuss NAFTA," the embassy said in a statement yesterday.
But Wendy Freeman, vice-president of CTV News, said: "The facts of the story are accurate and CTV National News will be reporting on the story again."
