Health Ministry Secretary writes to Paul Costale of ICRC

Secretary to the Health Ministry Athula Liyanage has sent a letter to International Red Cross Society Director Paul Costale stating it is much surprising to note the activities of International Red Cross society, of its inability to transport the patients from the four hospitals in the uncontrolled areas, whereas thousands of people are moving towards controlled areas from uncontrolled areas.

Secretary Athula Liyanage has alleged the Red Cross society officials, that patients and employees from the hospitals at Puthukudiyiruppu, Udaiyaar Kaadu, Vallipuram and Suthanthirapuram are not brought to the rescued places, but was taken to unprotected area such as Puthumathalan.

Meanwhile, International Red Cross Society had requested the government to inform a safety passage to transport 400 injured persons in the Puthumathalavan area. It further states, the basic necessities such as health care and proper water facilities are inadequate to the affected persons.

Secretary to the Health Ministry in his letter further quotes, the information given by the International Red Cross society, “that conditions of people affected by the confrontations are getting worse”, which the government is taking more attention.
