Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn: murder, suicide

At Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, Michigan this afternoon, a man entered the campus, shot to death a female before turning the gun on himself.

The gunman used a shotgun.

"An entry team entered the south hallway ... as they entered they heard another gunshot," he said. "Officers were able to enter one of the rooms, and discovered two deceased parties. We cleared the building."

The school will be closed the rest of the day.

According the the school they have received reports of an armed individual on campus. The police attention is focused on the MacKenzie Fine Arts Center.

School officials have sent out an emergency notification to students and faculty. Dearborn police are on the scene. Officials have called a 12:40 PM press conference to address the situation.

A reporter with the local paper managed to speak with some students:

Matt Laurinec, an Editor at the Michigan Journal, the newspaper at the neighboring University of Michigan Dearborn was able to talk with several students:

"They kind of said it was a little big of pandemonium and shock at first," he said. "Students said they heard it -- heard about one or two shots at first -- came out into the hallways, and that's when the scattered panic began to start. And, from there, about four or five more shots were heard and that's when they ran out," he said.

Another dreadful bit of news involving guns, and people are still clamoring for loosening of gun control.

I think the system of purchase and ownership of guns needs better accountability.

No matter how strict the accountability system may be, there will always be those who will do harm to others, whether it be through utilizing a gun, knive, poison baseball bat or pussy willow. If someone is determined to take a life, they will eventually succeed.

At least he turned the gun on himself before he could take any more innocent lives.

True if someone is out to get you,and are determined to do harm they most likely will. Tho,Guns it has to be said ! are a whole different bag of bullets. So many to choose from too easily available and one shot can kill you stone dead. I abhor guns and pray we dont have them increase here in the U.K.

I am willing to bet that this wasn't a random murder, but this victim was specifically targeted. Most likely was a jealous boyfriend. If this was a random crime, we need to allow people with a concealed pistol license to carry on school campuses, so that they can defend themselves. We also need to encourage more people to step up and learn how to defend themselves, and take weapons safety courses. All mass killings occur in so called "gun free zones". I like to call them "criminal empowerment zones", because the attackers know they can kill as many people as they choose, with no threat of being challenged.
